Learning To Tell Time Is FUN ~ Walt Disney Presents [ LP Record Album ]

Learning To Tell Time Is FUN ~ Walt Disney Presents [ LP Record Album ]
This magnificent LP Record Album was released by Disney in 1964.

Treasure Planet
Not exactly the most seamless adaptation ever attempted, this animated version of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic swashbuckler (now set in outer space, even if the "ships" appear inexplicably unchanged since the 18th century) at least benefited from Disney's always high production standards. Those factors also insure that James Newton Howard's orchestral score is serviceably effervescent and retro enough for the film's storytelling gambit--if still a long way from the heights of Korngold's triumphant, genre-defining music for The Sea Hawk and other Errol Flynn swashbucklers; call it Captain Blood-lite. The studio's marketing-driven desire to have it both ways has also awkwardly sandwiched in a couple otherwise pleasant John Rzeznik-penned modern rock tracks, "I'm Still Here," performed by the Goo Goo Dolls singer himself, and BBMak's slightly funkier take of "Always Know Where You Are." --Jerry McCulley
Customer Review: A Fantastic Score For A Great Movie
Definitely one of the--if not the--most underrated Disney movies ever. Of course, such an original concept got swept up in the intent to maximize the market-ability of the movie. Admittedly though, "Treasure Island" in space is hard to pull off, but this movie does, in part to the great score behind it. To balance a traditional 'swashbuckling' genre score with sci-fi twists can be no easy task, but its managed greatly in this soundtrack. A definite must for anyone who liked the movie and a great suggestion for anyone else.
Customer Review: A review based on the samples. (No, I don't have the CD...yet.)
I shall be rating this with stars, 5 stars being awesome and one star being lame. 1. I'm Still Here (John Rzeznik): 5 stars. I love this song! 2. Always Know Where You Are (BBMak): Um, ok, why did they put this song on the soundtrack again? 2 stars. 3. 12 Years Later: Kind of a quiet song, one I would listen to while writing. 4 stars. 4. To the Spaceport: Awesome! Kind of sounds like one of the songs from the movie "Dinosaur". (No surprise there, because James Newton Howard did the scores for both movies.) 4 stars 5. Rooftop: Wow. This song is beautiful, and it is most definately a song that I would listen to at night to lull me to sleep. 5 stars. 6. Billy Bones: Way to switch me from "lull me to sleep." to "creeping out!" 4 stars. 7. The Map: Yay for the Chronicles of Narnia people who put the first part of this song on their movie trailer! This song is DA BOMB! 5 stars. 8. Silver: Rock on all you Newfies out there! (A Newfie being slang for a Newfoundlander, or somebody that was born on Newfoundland.) This song goes out to you and smacks of the seas and the east coast. It totally fits Silver who must be either Newfie or part Newfie. (I'm sure he is, but don't bet on it.) 5 stars. 9. The Launch: Hmm. I'm not so keen on this song, but it's probably just me. 3 stars. 10.James Newton Howard really shines in one of his best musical pieces. Wow, I think this song sums up Silver and Jim's father/son pretty well. 5 stars. 11. Jim chases Morph: Meh on this song too. I love Morph though. He practically steals the movie. 3 stars. 12. Ben: Um, yeah. I don't really like this song too much. 2 stars. 13. Silver Bargains: And we are BACK TO AWESOMENESS! I love this song. It's rather bittersweet. 4 stars. 14. The Back Door: Ooh, this song has suspense weaved into it. Me likey! 4 stars. 15. The Portal: This song reminds me of in the movies when the main character tampers with something too deadly for them (like magic), and it ends up morphing them or attacking them. Sort of a "I messed up with something beyond my control, and now I'm paying for it." kind of tune. 4 stars. 16. Jim Saves the Crew: W00t! Mega freaky action music! And more of the same "Playing with fire" feelings that we got from The Portal. 5 stars. 17. Silver Leaves: Nice, soft, heart-touching music to finish up an excellent CD and movie. 4 stars.

Customer Review: Rare studio recording by Julian Brightman
This appears to be geared toward children, the young or very novice singer - the accompaniment is very simply structured and the vocal line mimics the original scores. Of interest however is a rare studio recording of Julian Brightman on several tracks of the CD. Interestingly enough, Brightman (normally a mellow tenor) is found here singing "Low Voice". The reduction in key seems to come from a reduction in tempo, slowing down to facilitate production of a lower voice. The approach is limited in success, coming off sounding as if in slow-motion and limiting Julians ability to leap to a higher note due to speed so some transitions to upper notes sound somewhat awkward. It's a shame Brightman wasn't given the "High Voice" version to which his talents would have been greater suited - one can only imagine the difference that would have made. However, if you are of the group that knows and appreciates the talents of this reclusive artist, even though the voice itself seems to be cloaked in this go 'round, you can appreciate him giving his all as he always does, and as usual leaves you wanting for more.

Customer Review: Magic Mike
I was first introduced to mike in my sixth grade english class.. Had I been the only one in class I would of started crying... We were studying Phantom Of The Opera, and had to listen to "Music Of The Night" as part of the lesson..I couldnt start crying at my desk because other students wre there... I was sincerely moved.. his singing was almost crystaline-- it was overpurified , and I couldnt imagine someone who could express emotions so well... the only problem is -i have all of his CD's and Im desperately want more...!!! I only wished I could have saw Mike in EFX. I would have payed max to get front row seats... Saw Phantom with Colm Wilkonson as the lead, no contest, Mike could of easily overpowered Colm's Phantom anyday...!!!

This book is adorable. My 3 year old daughter is really into the whole princess thing and especially loves books. Very cute and entertaining. We bought this as a b-day present for her and it is a hit.
Customer Review: Niece loves it
We gave this book to our niece for her birthday along with the princess sleeping bag. She thought it was cool to be able to change the outfits. I can't comment on it much except it looked to be a long lasting product.

Customer Review: Great CD!!
I bought this cd for my daughter for Christmas. She is 3. I don't have her reaction yet, but I know it will be priceless. Of the 17 "songs", there are really only 8 songs, while the other 9 items are dialogues of the princesses talking to your kid. They really sound like the real princess voices, and I was told when I bought mine that her name is used 55 times on the cd. Her name is incorporated into the songs and it sounds real, not forced, not just mixed in, but really flows. I love this cd and can't wait to give it to my daughter. I also like that I can buy her something that's not just another toy taking up a bunch of space. We can keep this in the car and she can listen to it whenever we are driving. Another mom told me her daughter cherished her personalized music cd for many years. I will say that these are not familiar songs. They are tea party songs, none of which were familiar to me. But I believe we will soon know them as we listen to this cd over and over and over... I bought mine a craft fair from "Just Me Music" and they had many other types like Sesame Street, Wiggles, Disney for boys, Veggie Tales, and I don't remember what else. I was able to listen to samples and they were all very neat! Highly recommend.

Classic Disney, Vol. 3: 60 Years of Musical Magic
Third installment of this popular series focusing on the magical music of Disney. Features 25 tracks including 'You've Got A Friend In Me', 'Colors Of The Wind', 'Out There', 'Stay Awake', 'The Ballad Of Davy Crockett', 'Following The Leader', 'Trust In Me' and many more. 1996.
Customer Review: Buy this CD!
This CD is a wonderful collection of some 25(!) of the most beloved Disney hits. Indeed, the songs on this CD are all songs from the great Disney movies that you remember from your childhood. There's "You've Got A Friend In Me" from Toy Story, "Oo-De-Lally" from Robin Hood, and "I Wan'na Be Like You" from The Jungle Book (I love that Louis Prima!).What's also wonderful is that the hits are from the great Disney movies right up to the present, with such songs as "Jack's Lament" from The Nightmare Before Christmas. My whole family loves these songs, and often sings along with them. My personal favorite is The Silly Song from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - I love that scene! Buy this CD you won't regret it!
Customer Review: More Classic Music from Disney
This third CD of Disney music is a good mixture of the old with the new. Track 1: "Colors of the Wind" from POCAHONTAS is one of the best songs composed to date for a motion picture. Track 18: "Bella Notte" from LADY AND THE TRAMP brings back many memories as does Track 21: "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" from television show and movies. Going back even further is Track 24: "Little April Shower" from BAMBI, which is an interesting composition representing nature's beauty, fury and return to tranquility. Track 6: "Les Poissons" is a great number from THE LITTLE MERMAID that is well composed musically but also is used to advance the story of the film. This is yet another great CD in this series.

Customer Review: Thoroughly enjoyable
My 2 year old grandaughter received several dvd's for Christmas, but this is the one she loves to watch over & over again. Her parents try to start another dvd & she makes it known she wants the Princess/Mermaid one instead. The only complaint is from my daughter & son-in-law because they now know every word, but insist that it is a hit!!
Customer Review: Great for little girls!
My daughter is almost 2 and she loves Aurora. She requests this video and the sing along songs volume 3 the most. The Aurora video is a good story fot liitle ones, although the Jasmine video is just ok. It doesn't hold her interest as much as Aurora. That could just be her personal taste. The picture quality is great on my widescreen tv and it is shown in 16 x 9.

Disney High School Musical Book and Microphone Pen
Fans of the hit movie will love this book, which comes with a microphone pen that not only amplifies your voice, but also plays a melody from the movie for sing-along fun. The book contains lots of photos and highlights special moments from the movie. Plus you'll find a journal area that let's you record your current "stats" as well as your hopes and dreams for the future.
Customer Review: a huge hit but......
I bought this for my niece for Christmas. It was a huge hit. Two months later and she rarily looks at it but she still says it's a favorite. This book is great when they first get it and they love it to pieces. She couldn't read the behind the scenes of High School Musical fast enough. There are pages that asks questions for the reader to fill out for themselves. The included pen is also great and she still uses that but since she read and filled in the book pages, it doesn't really get much use and sits on a bookcase gathering dust. I'm sure it will be great as she gets older and looks back at what she wrote and will love it all over again but the appeal has worn off for now. Is it worth the money? I would say "Absolutely" since it brought such joy to her when she got it, it will be a keepsake for when she gets older, AND she got a recordable microphone pen that also plays parts of music from the movie.

Customer Review: 4 new-to-DVD toons & 4 re-issues.
Like most of these single disc mini compilations of Disney Cartoons you get only 8 cartoons, half of which have already been released on DVD. Most of the other half will be released on December 11 2007 as a Disney Treasure DVD. At $14.99 it is no bargain for a DVD less than an hour long, this is the equivilant of spending $30 for a short feature or $45 for a regular feature with extras. The picture quality is excellent with supurb colors and sharp picture. Purists may complain about the white dust on the animation cells that is usually taken out on the Disney Treasures DVD releases, but this is the way they were shown in the theaters 50 or so years ago. The audio is crisp and flawless in its original mono mix. The following 4 titles are NEW to DVD and won't be released on a Disney Treasures Tin DVD until Christmas 2007 or later. STRAIGHT SHOOTERS (1947) - Donald runs a shooting gallery at a fair and tries to take advantage of Huey, Dewey & Louie. But he has meet his match. *** Announced to be on the December 11 2007 DISNEY TREASURES CHRONOLOGICAL DONALD 3 DVD release *** SOUPS ON (1948) - Donald tries to get Huey, Dewey & Louie to eat their food. *** Announced to be on the December 11 2007 DISNEY TREASURES CHRONOLOGICAL DONALD 3 DVD release *** LION AROUND (1950) - The boys dress up as a lion to steal a pie from Donald's cabin. Then a real lion shows up, but Donald thinks it is the boys. *** Announced to be on the December 11 2007 DISNEY TREASURES CHRONOLOGICAL DONALD 3 DVD release *** LUCKY NUMBER (1951) - Donald has the winning sweapstakes ticket & doesn't know it, the boys try to get it cash it in for him but don't have gas money for their car. Huey, Dewey & Louie appear more as older teenagers to make them driving age. Possibly the only Disney characters to grow up. The following 4 titles have been released on DVD before, but you may not have those DVDs. DONALD'S NEPHEWS (1938) previously released on "DISNEY TREASURES: CHRONOLOGICAL DONALD VOLUME 1". SEA SCOUTS (1939) previously released on "DISNEY TREASURES: CHRONOLOGICAL DONALD VOLUME 1". DONALD'S OFF DAY (1944) previously released on "DISNEY TREASURES: CHRONOLOGICAL DONALD VOLUME 2". DON'S FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH (1953) previously released as an extra on the "THREE CABALLEROS" DVD. Sadly, there are still 3 Huey, Dewey & Louie cartoons not available on DVD and they could have been included here instead of the 4 re-issues. The bottom line is that this is a fun, good looking DVD. But it is too short and half of it is duplication. If you don't mind paying $14.99 for 25 minutes of new cartoons than will most likely be released next year on a larger cartoon collection, then this is worth getting. I bought it.

Walt Disney Records Springtime Favorites

Walt Disney Records Springtime Favorites
Customer Review: Bouncy and Catchy are the Key Words Here
My 5 year old daughter loves music, particularly Disney songs, so it's no wonder she often asks me to pop this one in the car cassette player. Some of these tunes were familiar to me like "April Showers" from Bambi, some not familiar, like "Sunny Sunny Day," which I love to loudly sing along with to the annoyance of my daughter. Overall, these are upbeat, catchy tunes, the kind that get stuck in your head for the rest of the day. My only criticism: it's a short recording.

Walt Disney's Imagineering Legends and the Genesis of the Disney Theme Park

Walt Disney's Imagineering Legends and the Genesis of the Disney Theme Park
Fifty years ago, Walt Disney utterly transformed the concept of outdoor entertainment venues from tawdry carnivals and seedy amusement piers called "amusement parks," to an entirely new destination that would come into common vernacular as the "theme park."

Although Disneyland was the inspiration of one man, Walt did not achieve this history-altering concept on his own. Using his innate talent for combining disparate skills and personalities, he assembled a creative team that blended imagination with engineering. Walt called this group his "Imagineers."

Walt Disney's Legends of Imagineering and the Genesis of the Disney Theme Park introduces a core group of the originators of Disneyland and the other Disney parks. It explores their individual relationships with Walt and each other, their creative breakthroughs and failures, and their rivalries and professional politics. This candid narrative of their lives and contributions to a very special form of entertainment illustrates why, half a century later, their work continues to be vital and important to millions of people every day, and all over the world.

Lavishly illustrated throughout with rare and never-before-seen artwork and photographs, Walt Disney's Legends of Imagineering and the Genesis of the Disney Theme Park will further enrich the reader's appreciation of the exceptional talent behind Disneyland's creation and ongoing evolution.
Customer Review: A Great Look at Disney's Imagineers
This has been an eagerly anticipated book in the Disney community. Since their inception with the creation of Disneyland, the Imagineers have always been the architects and dreamers of Walt's visions. Many of the names that you read about in the book will be familiar to Disney enthusiasts; as the name of the book implies, these are the legends of Disney Imagineering. Jeff Kurtti is a well-known and much-admired name in the Disney community. He has written many seminal works on the history of the theme parks, animated films, characters and theater. Since The World Began is one of his more treasured books. Jeff is also known for his work on several award-winning documentaries and as a consultant for film and theater. Currently, he is working with the Walt Disney Family Museum. The late Bruce Gordon served as editor on the project and his talents are seen throughout the book through the layout and design. Bruce was the author of The Nickel Tour, Walt's Time and The Art of Disneyland (with Jeff). In an interview with Didier Ghez, Jeff talks about the motivation behind the book: The inspiration for Walt Disney's Imagineering Legends was John Canemaker's Walt Disney's Nine Old Men. I say inspiration, since my book comes nowhere near the depth and erudition of John's great work, but the inspiration was to create a work that would familiarize people with the core team of creative people within the initial development of Disneyland. The animation group, as a rule, is more familiar to people, and the Imagineering group is less well-known, the history of how they came together is much less documented. It's very important for new generations of fans to get a proper introduction to this information, it's important for the Company to preserve a record that illuminates and contextualizes key periods of its history. --http://disneybooks.blogspot.com/2008/07/next-month-will-see-release-of-jeff.html I am not sure I could have said it better myself. In looking at a group as large and nebulous as the Imagineers, it is obvious that any work on them could not be inclusive. Many people have iterated their complaints about the lack of certain key members, but that is to be expected. Jeff has already stated that he hopes to create a second volume. Imagineering Legends is able to meld several key ideas into one book: an introduction to 30 of the most famous and key Imagineers; an insightful look into the creation of the theme parks; and a journey through a history of Imagineering. There has not been another work published on this scale or within the same pages. Each of the Imagineers chronicled is presented within their holistic context. The classifications are well-reflected and well-thought. Jeff bestows the following categories: the Prototype Imagineers; the Place Makers; the Story Department; the Model Shop; the Machine Shop; the Music Makers and the Unofficial Imagineers. Special places are reserved for Walt Disney and John Hench. Most of this information can be found in other sources, such as The E-Ticket, Walt Disney Imagineering, The Art of Disneyland, Disneyland: The First Quarter Century, The Nickel Tour and Disneyland: Inside Story. But Imagineering Legends is the only place you will find all of this information. That is the true brilliance of the book. Jeff presents a seamless and well-organized view into the Imagineers and the creation of Disney theme parks. Bruce Gordon did an amazing job with the layout of Imagineering Legends. There are new photographs and concept art throughout the book. The layout is very contemporary and very appealing; you never feel lost in columns of text (although, Jeff is a great writer). My only issue with the layout is that some of the artwork and photographs are spread across two pages. Sometimes, it is difficult to get a good view of the artwork. Bottom Line: This work is for everyone. Jeff has created a book that lays a solid foundation of knowledge for Disney enthusiasts of all levels. Whether you are new to the Imagineers or a seasoned researcher, this compilation solidly portrays Imagineering and their importance within the Disney Company. This book will be within constant reach on my bookshelf for many years. It will also be an essential addition to every enthusiast's library. Future Disney researchers will be thanking Jeff for years to come. You need to own this book.
Customer Review: Great Book for fans of early Imagineers
This book is an excellent reference book for the true fan of the early days of Walt Disney's Imagineering and the people who most influenced the way the Disney Theme Parks are so different from any other. Lots of early pictures and stories. Highly recommended for the true Disney Theme Park fan.

DISNEY'S KARAOKE SERIES: ALADDIN / VARIOUS - DISNEY'S KARAOKE SERIES: ALADDIN / VARIOUS
Customer Review: Kids love it!
The "classic" Disney songs are shorter and easier to read and play on piano. The newer ones are more complicated and often much longer, and not having seen many of the newer films, I don't know them as well as Mary Poppins, for example. Having a pre-recorded track to sing along to makes sing-alongs easier!
Customer Review: HELLO
Someone said that it sounds bad well why didn't you listen to the sample on amazon that is exactly how it sounds and also the hardly ever sound like the real one but this is good.

Robin Hood (Disney Gold Classic Collection)
A minor classic from Disney, this 1973 all-animal, all-animated musical version of the familiar story is more charming than one might expect. Perhaps it's the warm, chummy take on key relationships within the legend--the way Robin Hood (Brian Bedford) gets twitterpated whenever the subject of Maid Marian (Monica Evans) comes up or the way best pal Little John (Phil Harris voicing a variation on his own Baloo from The Jungle Book) admonishes the Sherwood Forest hero, "Aw, Rob, why dontcha just marry the girl?" (Then, of course, there's the canny "casting" of the romantic leads as foxes: Robin the sly one and Marian the, well, foxy one.) The rest of the vocal cast is lively and eclectic: Peter Ustinov, Andy Devine, Terry-Thomas, George Lindsey. Roger Miller provides the songs and voice for the minstrel character Allan-A-Dale. The film is ably directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, whose decades of work in Disney's animation division helped create the studio's rich legacy. --Tom Keogh
Customer Review: The Best EVER.
This is one of Disney's best animated movies. Great for every age! A must have in your collection if you have children.
Customer Review: Just like I remember it...
I absolutely adored this movie when I was a child, and was so happy that I could find it on DVD recently. They just don't make Disney movies like this anymore. I don't like the DVD cover; I prefer the older version. At least nothing was done to the characters within the movie itself. Quality of the DVD is good.

Disney's Mix and Match Villains Book
Provides a brightly illustrated, interactive book for children of all ages as they mix-and-match their favorite Disney villains, such as Frollo, Cruella De Vil, Jafar, the Queen of Hearts, Ratcliffe, and others.
Customer Review: Exceptional Book to Read Together
This is a great interactive book for younger kids...and I found myself as an adult playing with the mixed up pages to make funny Disney characters. Definitely great for Disney or non-disney fans alike.
Customer Review: One of the most entertaining Disney products ever!
I remember that when I was in middle school I went to a Disney store with my parents. I loved Disney stores. I remember finding this book in the store. There was only one copy and I really wanted it. My parents bought it for me. I played with it for hours. Everytime I went to Disney World, I took the book with me. Honestly, I've never found an item that could keep me happy for hours. Sadly, it is out-of-print. I'm glad I still have my copy. I'm 19 going on 20, going into my second year of college, and I still enjoy this book. I'm not ashamed of that. In fact, I'm extremely proud to be able to enjoy an item that brings back wonderful memories of my childhood. This book is for all ages, even adults. I'm about to leave on a trip to Disney World with my family, and yes, I am bringing the book with me. If you can find a copy, I recommend getting it.

Cinderella (Wide World of Disney)

Cinderella (Wide World of Disney)
More is not necessarily better. A glitzy Hollywood cast and a big budget did not improve the wonderful 1957 teleplay (or its equally charming 1964 remake) upon which this version is based. This is partly because Brandy, cast in the title role, cannot act. Not helping matters are Whoopi Goldberg as the prince's mother and Jason Alexander as his valet. Their shtick wears thin very quickly. However, Paolo Montalban is charismatic as the prince, and Whitney Houston plays a fairy godmother with pizzazz. The production cost millions, and is certainly lavish, but the whole affair feels forced and overdone, reminding one of a prom queen wearing too much makeup. It does deserve credit for a multi-ethnic cast, the addition of two new songs and a hip attitude. However, the 1964 version (the original was not taped) is much sweeter and more romantic. Originally released as Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. --Rochelle O'Gorman
Customer Review: Cinderella The Musical by Rodgers & Hammerstein

Customer Review: Tarzan
The Edgar Rice Burroughs books are full of suspense, a perfect bedtime story. The best thing is that many (if not all of them) can be downloaded from from Project Gutenberg. Try reading the first one, Tarzan of the Apes, to your child as a serial bedtime story. They'll be begging to go to bed.
Customer Review: Disney's Tarzan , clear and Precise
This version of Disney's Tarzan is clearly written and has accurate drawings true to the film's content. Rarely do you find a smaler version of the big books so well presented.

The Disney Album

The Disney Album
This is a love letter to that special pop song genre cultivated in Disney films (and in some cases, musicals). Instead of the chestnuts from Disney's classic canon, Michael Crawford has chosen a program of contemporary Disney creations (except for the vintage "Baby Mine" from Dumbo), but these are destined to become evergreens in their own right. For starters, the magical combination of melody, atmosphere, and gentle lyrics showcases the Disney folks' uncanny ability to patch together sensational creative teams, drawing on such diverse artists as Alan Menken, Elton John, Randy Newman, and Phil Collins. And Crawford's mellow tenor, with its hint of Peter Pan innocence, is well suited to these expressions of joy and love, which include a memorable duet on "If I Never Knew You" (from Pocahontas) with Sherie René Scott. The production is lush and polished, but the length, a mere 40 minutes, is disappointingly skimpy. --Sarah Chin
Customer Review: choice of songs
I love Michael Crawford, but didn't like the songs he chose for this. There are much greater ones. I do have a favorite and just bought the individual song "I Will Go Sailing No More" from Toy Story.
Customer Review: Collection of Disney Songs

The Rescuers Down Under (Disney Gold Classic Collection)
No, this isn't a quickie, direct-to-video sequel, cashing in on the success of the 1977 animated hit about adventurous mice, but a full-blown theatrical effort. This time around, Bernard (voiced by Bob Newhart) is trying to pop the question to Bianca (Eva Gabor) when they're summoned to Australia, where a young boy has been kidnapped by a pallid, gray-faced poacher (who looks like and is voiced by George C. Scott). Wilbur, a chatterbox of an albatross (John Candy, replacing the late Jim Jordan's character Orville), and Jake (Tristan Rogers), a kangaroo mouse--Bernard is jealous of the dashing rodent--assist the Rescuers in saving the day and imparting a mild environmental message. The film opens with an absolutely breathtaking aerial sequence--this was made near the beginning of Disney's animation renaissance--so impressive it would seem the story, literally, has nowhere else to go but down, but some smart gags, excellent animation, and rollicking adventures ensue. So why isn't it better known? It had the bad luck to open, in 1990, opposite another kids' film--Home Alone. --David Kronke
Customer Review: The Rescurers Down Under
My five year old grandaughter really got into this book. I think this was much better than the original"The Rescurers". It teaches children to respect animals.
Customer Review: even better than the first
It is even better than the first one and the first one was really good.

Customer Review: Great product, very satisfied
I did a lot of looking around before deciding to buy this for my son. I was reluctant due to very little information about it. I'm very happy with it and glad I bought it. The singer is terrific, a necessity as he sings in all the songs (sometimes accompanied by some children's singing and various voices and sound effects). The singer is Larry Gross, who sounds just like the host of Mountain Stage of the same name (I was unable, after much searching, to find out if it's the same person). The band is also excellent. I'm not a music critic, but I'm something of a musician, and I know good music when I hear it. Most of the songs are very upbeat and cheerful except where appropriate (slower songs, etc.). Many music genre's are represented with a healthy dose of Americana, folk, and country with some blues, rock, jazz and others. This is music that can with much repetition be not only tolerated but very much enjoyed.
Customer Review: A Wonderful Selection.
This collection of Disney favorites is a wonderful set of music for children. We use them everyday for children's classes in our dance studio. The children love to sing along with the songs. And many of the songs we can actually use for a production at the end of the dance season. We couldn't be happier. This collection is more than worth the money.

The Little Mermaid Disney Read-Along

The Little Mermaid Disney Read-Along
This read-along presentation of Little Mermaid is designed as a supplement to, rather than a replacement for, Disney's full-length feature film. The read-along section features a 14-minute narrated synopsis of the basic story in five languages; each with onscreen words accompanied by still action pictures from the Disney movie and very brief song excerpts. The vocabulary portion introduces words like "mermaid" and "crab" in English, German, French, Italian, or Spanish. Sing-along songs with onscreen lyrics include "Part of Your World," "Under the Sea," and "Poor Unfortunate Souls." Children ages 3 and older will enjoy pursuing Sebastian as he hides beneath ever-moving cups in the game section. Music videos "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World" (featuring Jodi Benson) are sure to appeal to preteen audiences and the Search the Web DVD-ROM and Disney preview sections are of interest to all ages. While the Little Mermaid story is scant on drama in this format, this read-along makes reading fun and constitutes a nice accompaniment to the feature film. --Tami Horiuchi
Customer Review: I Paid Too Much!
Maybe if I had paid $10 instead of $18 I would consider this a better buy. Unfortunetly, I paid too much. My 4 1/2 year old daughter is in LOVE with Ariel, so I bought it and was not real pleased. Neither was she. The find Sebastian game was fun for about 3 minutes (she found him every time) and the story is narrated with still pictures from the video. (maybe a different story about Ariel would have been nice) I do think the foreign language part is cute, although a little tough to understand for a 4 year old. All in all, for $10 it's a decent buy...but no more than $10!
Customer Review: The Magic Of The Little Mermaid On Your DVD!
DVD READ-ALONG - THE LITTLE MERMAID is a fantastic thing for the kids and adults. It has the complete story of the Hans Christian Anderson story of The Little Mermaid with all the character voices and a great narration by actor Roy Doltrice (TV's Beauty & The beast) It's all the original cast too. Jodi Benson (Ariel) and Buddy Hacket too! The menus are cleverly put together and the graphics are fun. The extras include music videos with sing-a-long capabilities and words as well. There is a game that you can find Sebastian and a vocabulary section that everyone can learn foreign words. There are even two rock videos of Kiss the Girl and Jodi Benson herself singing Part Of Your World. That is very good. The best part for me and the kids is the fact you can listen to this story in six different languages. A very cool feature I wish I had as a kid. Our kids today are going to be smart in several different languages. You should get this. It's fun and musical! (8-15-02)

Return to Never Land (Original Soundtrack)

Return to Never Land (Original Soundtrack)
The Motion Picture Soundtrack of the Walt Disney Motion Picture that is a Sequel to the All-time Favorite "Peter Pan".
Customer Review: Jonatha Brooke's "I'll Try" is worth the purchase.
The soundtrack in total is better than most Disney Films...But the song "I'll Try" is a classic and the CD should be purchased to hear the singing and songwriting of Jonatha Brooke. Why this song did not get an Oscar nod, when songs of less substance do each year is perplexing. If you liked the film or did not even see it...the CD is worth the price. In addition Jonatha Brooke has many more CDs out of her music and one can instantly be hooked (no pun intended) at first listen...
Customer Review: One of my favorites Disney Soundtracks
I like this CD. The songs are beautiful and transport you to a fantasy world.

Understanding Disney: The Manufacture of Fantasy
Since the 1930s the Walt Disney Company has produced characters, images, and stories which have captivated audiences around the world. How can we understand the appeal of Disney products? What is it about the Disney phenomenon that attracts so many children as well as adults?

In this major new book, Janet Wasko examines the processes by which the Disney company - one of the largest media and entertainment corporations in the world - manufactures the fantasies which enthrall millions. She analyses the historical expansion of the Disney empire, examines the content of Disney's classic films, cartoons and TV programs and shows how they are produced, considering how some of the same techniques have been applied to the Disney theme parks. She also discusses the reception of Disney products by different kinds of audiences. By looking at the Disney phenomenon from a variety of perspectives, she provides a fresh and comprehensive account of one of the most significant media and cultural institutions of our time.

This important book by a leading scholar of the entertainment industries will be of great interest to students in media and cultural studies and will appeal to a wide readership.
Customer Review: "Academia" at it's worst...
Being a Disney nut, I'll read just about anything that talks about the Disney corporation and culture. I found Understanding Disney at the library and eagerly picked it up. What a waste... I should have been clued in on page 5 with this statement: "The continued expansion and popularity of the Disney empire calls for the deliberate integration of political economic analysis with insights drawn from cultural analysis and audience studies or reception analysis, or, in other words, analysis emphasizing the economic as well as the ideological, or production as well as consumption." Huh? She teaches a class at the University of Oregon on this stuff. Very academic and abstract, and too much so for my liking. While there were some interesting factoids about Walt's true history vs. the story told by Disney, she went into pure academia all too often. An example, labeled "Psychoanalysis And Pinocchio": "Brody observes the anal images and incorporation themes have been common in Disney tales, citing examples from The Three Little Pigs and Peter Pan. Anal images, especially featuring the "often-kick-in-the-butt" Jiminy Cricket, are a rampant in Pinocchio as images of erection (Pinocchio's nose, the donkey ears), and incorporation is appearnt in the scenes of Pinocchio and Gepetto in the whale's stomach." Please!!!! You have *got* to be kidding me... She even covers Marxist analysis and the imperialist Disney. And kids pay to take this class?
Customer Review: Wasko is a bit verbose
I have to agree with another reviewer. The text can be tedious and annoying while not conveying any information. Her many references to "which I will discuss in chapter (x)..." is so common it becomes a joke in her writing. While the text can be informative at times her writing style tends to be annoying and pretentious. It's reminiscent of a speaker who spends all their time telling you what they are going to tell you, that they dont really have that much to say in the end.

The Magical Music of Disney

The Magical Music of Disney
Customer Review: Disney
This cd is really good, i love all the songs. Ariel has always been my favourite disney classic. I only have one problem, the singers arn't the actual singers that were in the films, and thats abit of a dissapointment for me. I would recommend this cd but not to people who actually want to listen to the actual people.
Customer Review: Wonderful Orchestrals
What's best about Disney's animated features, is that they contain amazing orchestral scores and songs. With this CD, one can hear the nuances of the full orchestral scores of 4 of Disney's most popular features, as played and by a full symphony and chorus.

Disney Silly Songs: 20 Simply Super Singable Silly Songs

Customer Review: Not entertaining at all
I did not like this CD at all either my kid. It is so boring! It is not music for real. Some of the "songs" are like a chat with some music in the background. It is not like I expected. My husband got a Crayola crayons package that comes with two CDs. These are much much better. It is music, fun music... In fact my baby just asks me to play it for her every time she rides in the car with me. I enjoy it as much as her. I played the Disney CD once and put it in a drawer.... Sorry, Disney, you were not assertive this time.
Customer Review: ?????
Some of these songs i think are very old and not for today's market. Not catchy. Sorry disney its a bust from me.

Wonderful World of Disney Television

Wonderful World of Disney Television
Accompanied by black-and-white photographs and statistics, a unique chronicle follows all of Disney's television programs and includes complete schedules of all broadcasts, seasonal highlights, behind-the-scenes stories, plot synopses, and much more."
Customer Review: Poorly Indexed. Lots of Information on Non-Disney Shows
This is one of those books that I bought sight unseen over the internet. I don't think I would have bought it if I had a chance to have looked at it first. This is one of those encyclopedia books that give you the name of a show, its air date and what seems like the TV Guide description of what was in the show. I figured that it would begin with the Disneyland TV series and branch out to the Wonderful World of Disney that I watched in the 70s. Well, it kind of does that and kind of not. It includes a chapter on Disney Specials (organized alphabetically by the name of the show). Then it has a chapter about repeating series, then the Mickey Mouse Club, then a chapter about Zorro, etc. The Disneyland shows are in there and so are the Wonderful World of Disney shows, but again, they are listed alphabetically by the title of each show. So, you wind up having a show from the 90's listed next to a show from the 50's. I suppose its one way of doing things, but its not what I expected. I thought I'd get to see which episode was shown on day one and then the rest in a chronological approach. It will be very difficult to identify the episodes that I saw growing up because of the way the shows are organized. Indexing was a disappointment, but what I really don't understand is the inclusion of what appears to be ABC's complete line-up from the time Eisner took over Disney until the book was published. I really didn't expect to see complete information about the "Golden Girls" series in a book called "The Wonderful World of Disney." Further the last 100 to 150 pages is just a listing of production people (like you would see shown in the credits of an episode - in small print) for each of the episodes mentioned in the book. If you knock out the ABC 90s lineup and the production credits, you've knocked out about 1/2 of the book. Substantively, the Disney-program related stuff is kind of weak -- like I said, sort of a TV Guide synopsis -- but there are little bits of trivia listed for numerous episodes and that's nice. Again, however, indexing makes the book suffer. For example, the movie Johnny Tremain was broken down into segments when shown on TV with each episode having a different title, "e.g., The Shot Heard Round the Word" and "The Boston Tea Party." Well, the Boston episode is found in the B's and the Shot episode is way over in the S's. This organization didn't make a lot of sense to me. Also there is some information that is just wrong. For example, it lists the Shaggy D.A. (from the mid 70s) as being shown in a colorized format in a TV episode. Of course, the movie was filmed in Color. I haven't spent a whole lot of time with the book, and there appears to be some good information in it (there are a number of pages or regular historical prose dealing with Walt's getting into TV, the Mickey Mouse Club and Zorro) but overall, the book is disappointing.
Customer Review: Sunday Nights are for families!
This book is a comprehensive history of Disney on television, with "The Wonderful World of Disney" anthology show as the centerpiece. As a kid I grew up watching Uncle Walt every Sunday night, on "The Wonderful World of Disney". Back then we were not bombarded with 24 hour cable, satellite, vcr, dvd, video games,... We had 4 channels to choose from, and even those rarely had anything watchable for kids. And as a result no kid missed Sunday nights with Walt Disney. He always had something exciting on, adventure, historical stories, action, cartoons, animal fare, you name it! I sat in front of the tube mesmerized with my dinner on a TV tray, the only night my mom let me eat in front of the TV. Parents could always trust Walt Disney to give us wholesome entertainment. Now we have grown up, and the old television series is gone but not forgotten as long as you have this book. There are hundreds of books on Disney's animated fare, but scant few have been written on their wonderful treasure trove of live action films, much less their material created specifically for television. There are books on specific shows, but none yet that bring them all together like this. Bill Cotter has done what no one else has attempted, to create a list of every single episode for every television show ever made: it's actors, plotline, trivia, air dates and rerun dates for every single show Disney ever made up to the date of publication. And he has done a fine job when you consider there are hundreds of episodes, aired 52 weeks a year, for 29 years. He takes the time to tell you if the episode was theatrically released first or televised first, overseas or domestic, if it was a feature that was edited not a movie or edited from a movie for TV, and even if it aired or released in a different name. He even lets you know what Disney did with the episode in the European market. This book has been a wonderful resource to assist me in finding old episodes that I can't remember the name for but vividly remember the story, confirming that the child actors are the famous persons I see in the movies now, or checking to see which video I want to track down next. Very comprehensive at 628 pages. Not a ton of pictures, but some good ones. Some books on Disney use too many pictures as a crutch for lacking content, but not this one. The back of the book has a massive appendix with tons of information on every episode, such as the writer, director, producer, actors, original story material source, screenplay writer, composers, visual effects, and so on... basically the entire credits for every episode are listed here. But it doesn't end there, he lists every episode of Mickey Mouse Club, the New Mickey Mouse Club and their respective serials; Zorro; Specials; and special releases of themovies to TV. Also has obscure limited series forgotten by time like Small & Frye, Zorro and Son, Meet Me at Disneyland, Gun Shy, or Wildside. The only source I can find for the many specials, series, and films of the Disney Channel. Saturday Mornings and Disney Afternoons animation is here like DuckTales, Wuzzles, Gummi Bears, Winnie the Pooh, Chp 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers, Tale Spin, Bonkers, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Timon & Pumba, Gargoyles, and all the rest. And the "non-Disney" labeled stuff they made like Blossom, Home Improvement, Golden Girls, Nurses, Empty Nest, Boy Meets World, The Torkelsons, Dinosaurs, and all the other syndicated series from Touchstone Television. It even lists the unaired episodes! The author of this book chose to include other shows that are so-called "not Disney", the Touchstone shows like the "Golden Girls". You have to remember that Disney Studios bought ABC Television, and prior to that was producing television medium at the Florida studio for the networks that did not have the Disney name plastered all over it, but was still made by the Disney company. They were just trying to be completist, and you get more information as a consumer at no extra cost. I myself am not interested in many of those Touchstone shows so I simply skipped that part of the book, no harm done there. Frankly, there is no other book at this time that lists every single episode of the legacy of Walt in his Wonderful World of Disney show. Trust me, this book is a treat for any Disney TV fan. A reviewer felt like some of the descriptions of each episode were too short, but there were 29 years of episodes on 3 different networks for the anthology show alone to cover in the book, and I feel that under the circumstances they did very well with a paragraph or two on each episode. The book is already 628 pages long, and is much bigger than a large dictionary. Any more and it would honestly be unmanagable. Since it is a history book first and foremost, the shows are listed from the oldest shows to the newest. Then within each show, such as Zorro, they list the episodes in the order they were aired. The exception is "The Wonderful World of Disney" which is done alphabetically, since so many of those episodes played multiple times over the years, or were mutli-part episodes, but most of all because the fans remember them by name but not neccesarily by air date. It really does make it easier this way. It lists episodes by the title name, which in a multi-part show like "Johnny Tremain" can get confusing at first. But the book usually tells you in one listing the names of the other parts of the story so you can track them down. For example on page 97 it begins with the main title Davy Crockett, then lists the 5 episode names of the original series so you can look them up by name. Then it list the 5 episodes from the 1988 remake series. It does the same with Elfego Baca, Gallagher, and other shows and even movies that were renamed as episodes after editing. The layout of the book takes a little extra effort to understand at first, but over time I have come to appreicate it very much and frankly would not change it. This is a great resource for info on theatrical releases and featurettes too since most aired on the show sooner or later. I strongly reccommend this book to any Disney fan or historian. It is one of the most valuable reference books in my Disney collection of over 100 books. Sadly the original Disney anthology shows have seen almost no attention from the studio by way of DVD release, and most episodes on VHS were printed in the 1980's. There are a number of episodes from the show still available "used" on VHS, simply do a search at Amazon under, "The Wonderful World of Disney". And if you use this book like I did you can find almost half of the Disney episodes ever made were released on VHS back in the '80s under their original episode titles. Buy them while you still can. I highly reccommend this hugely important reference to Disney television.
