So Dear to My Heart (Disney Gold Classic Collection)

So Dear to My Heart (Disney Gold Classic Collection)
One of Walt Disney's most precious film classics, SO DEAR TO MY HEART combines live action and animation to tell the heartwarming story of a young boy with big dreams and an even bigger imagination! Jeremiah is the determined country boy who adopts a rejected and mischievous black lamb named Danny. While drawing a picture of Danny in his scrapbook, Jeremiah daydreams of winning a blue ribbon at the County Fair. Then, from the pages of the scrapbook, Danny and other animal pictures magically come to life and convince Jeremiah to enter the real-life Danny -- a pet without a pedigree -- into the upcoming County Fair! But the road to the fair is filled with tough challenges for Jeremiah, who must learn the importance of dedication, love, and repsonsibility. Featuring the Academy Award(R)-nominated song "Lavender Blue" (performed by Burl Ives), and a host of enjoyable songs for children and adults, SO DEAR TO MY HEART is high-spirited, sentimental fun for everyone!
Customer Review: "It's what you do with what you got that counts!"
We see an old scrapbook as the narrator recalls that the summer of 1903 was a special one for him and is still dear to his heart. Then the story begins and we meet young Jerry who lives on the farm with his tough but loving Granny. A newborn black lamb has been rejected by its mother and Jerry convinces Granny to let him raise it, against her better judgment. And even though Danny the lamb is a lot of trouble, Jerry still dreams of taking him to the County Fair. This Disney tale of childhood innocence is very simple; there are no tragedies on the road to a happy ending, just an amazingly cute little boy and his ornery lamb. As Jerry, Bobby Driscoll didn't have to do anything for me to fall in love with him (although he's a very good actor!); just one look at that beautiful face was enough to send me reaching for the tissues. Beulah Bondi is perfect as his crotchety Granny and a young Burl Ives add country charm and good singin' as his Uncle Hiram. The lamb really doesn't have much personality and doesn't do much (and in fact, looks suspiciously like a white lamb with a dye job), but that's okay; it's all about sweet nostalgia and looking back at a simpler, happier time. There are several animated interludes where the animals in Jerry's scrapbook come to life and sing songs of wisdom and encouragement. It's all done very well and even if it's too unsophisticated for today's kids, their parents and grandparents will surely love this 1948 gem.
Customer Review: This film is available on DVD for those in the US and Canada!
If you've anxiously awaited a North American DVD release of this film only to be disappointed that Disney has delayed it indefinitely, there is an alternative! An official Region 4 Disney DVD has been released in Brazil, yet is 100% compatible with Region 1 NTSC systems of the US and Canada. When searching for So Dear To My Heart here at Amazon, you'll find a few results. Look for the Disney DVD named "Meu Querido Carneirinho". Only the cover and disc artwork are in Portuguese, but when you play the disc, the first thing that you'll see is a selection of languages. Just choose "English" and from there you'll be able to enjoy the movie and wonderful special features exactly as if it was a US release. Special Features include: Rare Footage - About a half an hour of outtakes and unused footage. Stills Gallery - Movie photos, posters, and production art. Facts Gallery - Interesting trivia. BTW, although the price might be attractive, stay away from the Chinese DVD release. I don't think it is even an official Disney disc. The picture quality is poor compared to the remastered Disney DVD and it has no special features.

Walt Disney's 6 Little Golden Books: Bambi/Dumbo/Mother Goose/Pinocchio/Scamp/Three Little Pigs
VINTAGE DISNEY IS back! This beautiful Little Golden Books boxed set brings back six of the most popular Disney stories of all time with the original artwork from the 1940s. From Pinocchio, Mother Goose, and Dumbo to Bambi, Scamp, and The Three Little Pigs, these gorgeously illustrated classics will make this boxed set a true gem for fans and collectors alike.
Customer Review: a little disapointed
The set does not cost much but the books (although they look good in the box) are not well put together. You will think that someone sat at home and make them with not technology whatsoever. I think you could find a much nicer book for that price o just a few more dollars.
Customer Review: Collection Needed
Happy to see these in a collection, I may have duplicated some books, but that's very ok. We'll have Grammies books and our grand daughter can take the others home with her to enjoy! I'm so very thankful that Amazon had these. Sadly books are being replaced by electronic gizmos that our son calls "electronic parents so parents don't have to BE there". Pretty insightful for a 20 year old who grew up in the electronic age!
