Walt Disney and Europe: European Influences on the Animated Feature Films of Walt Disney
Walt Disney and Europe: European Influences on the Animated Feature Films of Walt Disney
Customer Review: A "must read" for film buffs and Disney fans.
Robin Allan's Walt Disney And Europe: European Influences On The Animated Feature Films Of Walt Disney is carefully based on archival research and extensive interviews with those who worked closely with Walt Disney. Concentrating on the classic animated feature films produced under Walt Disney's personal supervision, Walt Disney And Europe examines the European influences on some of the most beloved Disney classics from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" to "The Jungle Book". With its painstaking attention to detail and meticulous research, Walt Disney And Europe will prove to be of immense interest to students of cinematic history in general, and the work of the Disney Studios in particular.
The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World 2008 (Complete Guide to Walt Disney World)
Should leave fans of Mickey smiling from ear to ear. -- Chicago Tribune
A thorough overview, with inside tips, facts and quizzes. With more than 400 color photos, it also makes a nice souvenir. -- Boston Globe
May be the most colorful, visually stunning and deeply researched guidebook on the market. A warm, loving portrait of Disney World, for people who want to love Disney World. -- Orlando Sentinel
Endless tips and trivia. -- Knoxville News-Sentinel
There are dozens of guides to Disney World, but I like this one by a husband-and-wife team who visited Disney World more than 700 times. They're not affiliated with Disney, but received much inside access by the company to provide very detailed descriptions of each ride, show and attraction. Among the gems are fun facts, suggested itineraries and little things to look for. -- Florida Times Union
Offers an in-depth history of the attractions and the parks themselves... and the most in-depth run-down of the two Disney water parks. -- Budget Travel
Book Description
The best-looking Disney World guidebook, The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World 2008 is also the most interesting. Its spectacular photography grabs your eye, then its fantastic wealth of information keeps you glued to its pages. Every aspect of Disney World becomes easy to understand, as color-coded chapters lay out everything one subject at a time, and gorgeous full-color images bring it all to life. Packed with details you just can't find anywhere else, every chapter is so helpful you'll find yourself sticking post-it notes everywhere.
The Planning Your Trip chapter offers a seven-step process to organizing your vacation, then a gold mine of practical information. As for theme parks, each ride or show gets its own article, many of which run several pages. Water parks are covered the same way, which makes the book the only real guide to Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Even diversions such as parasailing, stock-car driving and surfing lessons are fully described and illustrated.
A new restaurant chapter is a collection of 88 reviews. The accounts are descriptive and honest, and include useful details such as which character meals can usually take walk-ins. The accommodations chapter covers each Disney resort with a photo-packed article as well as a comprehensive At a Glance sidebar. The combination gives you a nice overview of each complex, but also makes it easy to scan them all by price, amenities, location, or other criteria.
Supplemental Material
Like the most complete DVD set, the book is packed with bonus features. The best are the background articles on Disney's theme park attractions. For example, three side stories describe the history, science and set design of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Other columns cover the histories of Space Mountain and It's a Small World. An animal guide describes the odd behaviors you can witness at Animal Kingdom, from the forearm-licking of the park's kangaroos to the stick-sharing rituals of its exotic birds. Breezy feature articles cover the wacky histories of the Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella fairy tales.
The result is a hugely entertaining book, but one that doesn't flinch from the frustrating realities of a Disney trip. It acknowledges the long lines, the challenge of getting key restaurant reservations, the cluelessness you have on how to get a front-row seat to the High School Musical street show... and provides the magical solutions. Tip bars run across the bottom of most pages.
Fitting the visual beauty of its subject, The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World 2008 is printed on gloss paper in full color. The book is fully updated, with the latest park and resort information and current prices and policies.
Customer Review: A nice balance of fun and useful information and lots of photos
An excellent guide. Unbiased (unlike some guidebooks that are really produced by the Disney folks) AND well illustrated with lots of photos (unlike some popular unbiased guidebooks on the market). The best of both worlds. Nice little touches like the section about the animals of Animal Kingdom make it a guide I will actually carry with me into the parks.
Customer Review: Great Book
The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World is a great guide. My husband and I just took our children to Disney World (for the first time) during Thanksgiving. The book gave very helpful tips about each ride and show. I found it very helpful and would recommend it to others who are new to Disney World.
Tinkering Tink (An Embossed Storybook) (Disney Fairies)

So tinkering Tink, ever the inventor, whips up a watering, shading, digging, planting, gardening machine and presents it to the astonished Lily. But alas, Lily explains to Tink that she likes watering, shading, digging, and planting by hand-just like Tink enjoys mending pots and pans and inventing things. Tink can't help but feel a little sad... will her amazing invention go to waste?

Customer Review: A fun "flute" for a 4 year old
This was the best Christmas purchase of the year for my 4-year-old little girl. The music she plays is dreadful, but she absolutely loves it and wants to take it everywhere. The songbook is difficult and I don't think young kids would be able to comprehend it, nor reach the recorder notes with their tiny hands, but the recorder itself has provided hours of (deafening) entertainment.
Customer Review: Good beginner's book for recorder
The Disney collection book and recorder set is a good beginning book. My sons have enjoyed learning the recorder and have also used the book for their other instruments (guitar and lapharp).

Walt Disney's The Jungle Book, Piano/Songbook Edition
Six terrific songs from the 1965 Disney animated classic: The Bare Necessities * Colonel Hathi's March (The Elephant Song) * I Wan'na Be Like You (The Monkey Song) * My Own Home (Jungle Book Theme) * That's What Friends Are For (The Vulture Song) * Trust in Me (The Python's Song).

Disney Songs the Satchmo Way
For this 1966 session, Louis Armstrong took on 10 Disney classics. A few of the tracks have intriguing arrangements, notably the slowed-down, eerie-sounding version of "Chim Chim Cher-ee" from Mary Poppins and the hillbilly camp strings that swell throughout "The Ballad of Davy Crockett." But while there are about a hundred other Armstrong records that feature more inspired performances and arrangements, it's still an interesting, enjoyable disc. There's just something about songs like "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" and "When You Wish upon a Star" that delights kids of all ages. Armstrong's deep, graceful, unmistakable voice combined with his Dixie and traditional soloing par excellence make this a record worth owning for all fans of Disneyana. It's a tad camp and somewhat dated, but so are the movies the selections are taken from--it's part of the charm. --Mike McGonigal
Customer Review: a Louis Necessity
Louis Armstrong is someone I admire for doing what they did consistently. Thus, if you are at all familiar with Satchmo, you have a good idea what this album is all about. There are those who view Armstrong's later years as a time of commercial submission, yet from my perspective, he elevated all the material that he recorded. This set of Disney tunes is no different. I bought it for my toddler son, so that he would be exposed to music of quality, but that would also appeal to him; however, I have no qualms listening to it on my own. My favorite is Louis' take on "Chim Chim Cheree", followed by "The Bare Necessities". If you have kids, make sure they hear this recording!
Customer Review: Makes me and the baby happy!
We love to dance and unwind to Disney by Louis. The songs are my favorite Disney songs...back when Disney really was magical. We have really enjoyed this. Fun for road trips, too.

Customer Review: 3-year old loves it!
My 3-year old loves this book! The story is just the right length, and it allows for the use of the buttons pretty often. Sometimes my son will get it out, sit in a chair and pretend he is driving. The steering wheel turns and makes a sound, and the horn honks.
Customer Review: Great Fun!``
My 11 month old son absolutely loves this book. He is a very music oriented baby and really likes the four different music buttons as well as the bright red horn.

Walt Disney Treasures - Uncle Scrooge: A Little Something Special
This print companion series to Disney's famous DVDs celebrates milestones in Disney comics history. In honor of Uncle Scrooge McDuck's 60th anniversary, this volume traces his comics career from 1947 to the present!
Customer Review: Highlighting Sixty Years of My Favorite Disney Character!
The Walt Disney Treasures collections have expanded into the world of Disney comics, and how great is that?!!! "Walt Disney Treasures: Uncle Scrooge, A Little Something Special" is the second volume of these fine new paperback collections sure to thrill fans of both the Disney Treasures DVDs and Disney comics alike. Here, we have 8 collected tales of my favorite Disney character, Scrooge McDuck, the richest duck in the world, uncle to Donald Duck, and the true face of Disney's comic book legacy, the other world of Disney that many self-proclaimed Disney fanatics aren't even aware of. This 160 page collection opens with an editorial about Scrooge's origin and his portrayal in comics both in the States and abroad, with insight into the stories chosen for inclusion in this collection. Then comes the first story, 1954's "The Seven Cities of Cibola", a true classic tale from the Duck-Man himself, Carl Barks, creator of Scrooge and many of the characters in his world. In this tale, Scrooge, worried that life is becoming stale without a new enterprise to take under his wing, is thrilled to be introduced to arrowhead collecting by Donald and the boys (Huey, Dewey, and Louie). Even with 3 cubic acres of money, 50 cents per arrowhead found is too good a deal for Scrooge to pass up! While searching though, he and his nephews end up on the trail of bigger treasure, that of the legendary Seven Cities. Just their luck, however, that the Beagle Boys would happen to be listening in on their plans to go after it. The second story in the collection was written 10 years later by Carl Fallberg, and is presented in its complete version here for the first time in North America. "Getting that Healthy, Wealthy Feeling" once again depicts Scrooge in a lackluster mood, as he feels his wealth is coming too easy and misses the hard work of earning a dime. This leads him to put Donald in charge of his fortune in the hope that separation and hard work will revitalize him. But Scrooge's plan goes awry when his money-making "luck" seems to dissipate without being able to touch his lucky dime. As editor David Gerstein points out, the story presents both the best and worst aspects of the period. It seems that other writers taking on Scrooge at times would misunderstand the concept of the lucky dime, turning him into a superstitious character in their stories and the dime into a magic talisman. Story three is "Daisy Duck's Diary - Witness Persecution", an Italian story from 1966 by Romano Scarpa. A car crash, a hair growth formula, an expert legal analysis, and most significantly, the romantic pursuit of Scrooge by Brigitta MacBridge, make for a fun tale with fanciful art from overseas. These Italian Disney comics stories are a great treat for the American fans who get to meet completely new and wacky characters when we are presented with translated versions. Story number four is "The Money Ocean", a highly imaginative tale from Italy, 1974. This Marco Rota tale depicts Scrooge as having several money bins and in a fret over their security. Donald prompts Scrooge to create one massive bin, and the result is an ocean of money with plenty of new ways to play with it, thanks to inventor Gyro Gearloose's help. But their's something sinister about the waves. Our fifth story is the Danish "Pipe Dreams", published in 1980 and written by Brian Claxton and Tom Anderson. This two-part story is a charming if simple reunion between Scrooge and his old flame, Glittering Goldie. Story six is a DuckTales adventure from 1989, "Windfall on Mount G'Zoontight", written by John Lustig with art by William Van Horn. I remember when Van Horn first came on the Disney comics scene, and I must admit, I was not a big fan of his whimsical style. I've grown accustomed to it though, and this story is typical of the slightly oddball duck stories his illustrations are usually attached to (perhaps they were all Lustig's? I don't recall). In this one, Scrooge, Launchpad, and Huey, Dewey, and Louie find themselves on an expedition to find the treasure of a mysterious, mountain-dwelling being called the Williwallawa. The seventh, and one of the finest stories in this collection, is Don Rosa's 1997 "A Little Something Special". This special birthday story is not a mere tale of Scrooge's 50th anniversary in Duckburg, but also of a scheme by Scrooge's greatest nemeses banding together in something of a Legion of Doom fashion. Could've made for a great animated feature, like many stories from Rosa, and of course Barks, if only Disney had turned to their comics for the direct-to-video animation market instead of making sequels that could only look poor next to their feature film originals. Anyway, if there's one thing you should notice when reading a book like this, it's that the true masters of the duck comics are Carl Barks (naturally) and Don Rosa (who followed Barks' story style and take on Scrooge and his world more truly than anyone else). Finally, after a brief and touching editorial, comes the story to round out this look at Scrooge and his legacy, the Danish "Whatever Happened to Scrooge McDuck", from 2006, written by Lars Jensen. This well-chosen tale shows the ducks of the future looking back on how Magica De Spell finally got Scrooge's number one dime, how Scrooge disappeared soon after, and the events that followed. But don't worry, it has a happy ending and Scrooge's adventures manage to continue as usual. "Walt Disney Treasures: Uncle Scrooge, A Little Something Special" is both a treat for the longtime Scrooge fan and a great introduction for those new to Mr. McDuck and his legend. If you have any interest in exploring this character beyond the wonderful television series "DuckTales", this is a great place to start. Of course, "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" and its companion are also excellent to give you the full McDuck story, and there are many, many other comic books and collections out there, including a couple of collections specifically featuring the Carl Barks stories that inspired some of the best DuckTales episodes ever. And, of course, there are Scrooge's other animated moments besides the TV series DuckTales and its bigscreen movie. Scrooge can also be seen in Mickey's Once and Twice Upon a Christmas direct-to-video movies, Mickey's Christmas Carol, the still-not-on-DVD-in-North-America "Sport Goofy in Soccermania", and Scrooge's as yet unreleased-to-DVD screen debut, the fantastic short "Scrooge McDuck and Money". Though, even before that he could be seen as part of the animated opening to the original Mickey Mouse Club, and Scrooge also has appeared on Mickey's House of Mouse and in cameos on other Disney animated shows, like "Raw Toonage". So, do yourself a favor and get into the fantastically rich world of one of Disney's finest characters and a true Disney legend in the comic book medium, Scrooge McDuck, the richest duck in the world!
Customer Review: Uncle Scrooge at His Best
Do not be misled by the appearance of Don Rosa's name as a author. This wonderful compendium actually has stories by Barks, Scarpa, Rota, Van Horn and others, in addition to Rosa. Admirers of the warm hearted, money loving, webbed foot, duck will need no encouragement to purchase. The presentation is attractive, the paper good, and the humor and satire unmissable.

Customer Review: Great audiobook for kids
My almost 4 year old daughter listens to this all the time during rest time. I like it so much I have bought some for gifts and have looked into others in the series.
Customer Review: Great Gift Idea
I bought this book and 2 other books similar to it for my 4 yr old daughter. At first I would read it to her along with the CD using my finger as a guide for her to see. Now, she enjoys sitting alone and follow the stories herself. It's true that there is no chime to indicate "Next Page", but if you read along with the CD while your child listens and looks at the pictures, they will learn when to turn the page. I have bought many of these books as birthday gifts for her pre-school friends. These books have been a big hit. There are 3 different books (4 complete stories in each): One book has Cinderella/Little Mermaid/Beauty and the Beast/Snow White Stories; another has Aladdin/Toy Story/Lion King/Little Mermaid; and the third book has Dumbo/Lion King/101 Dalmations/Bambi. All are great but the Princess book has been the biggest hit. These books are wonderful and the price on Amazon.com is fantastic. Enjoy!

Walt Disney Treasures - More Silly Symphonies (1929-1938)
The second set of Silly Symphonies completes the series of music-themed cartoons Walt Disney began in 1929 with "The Skeleton Dance." Disney used these films to train his artists and to experiment with new techniques and visual styles. Viewers who watch the Symphonies in chronological order can see the artists' work improving at an astonishing pace. When a ring of imps dances around a fire in "Hell's Bells" (1929) the flat-looking flames move stiffly, like paper cut-outs; five years later in "The Goddess of Spring" (1934), the flames ripples and crackle, and their changing hues produce multi-colored shadows on the cavern walls. The imps in the earlier film are rubbery golliwogs who just bounce and stretch to the music; in the later film, the rounder, more dimensional devilkins perform a complicated jazz dance. "Goddess of Spring" and "Broken Toys" (1935) also represent the artists' first efforts to animate a believable female character, as they prepared for the challenges of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Many of these films were consigned to the vaults for years because of their racial imagery. In the Oscar-nominated "Mother Goose Goes Hollywood" (1938), a gaggle of Hollywood celebrities cavort to familiar nursery rhymes, but the caricatures of Stepin Fetchit and Cab Calloway are no more unflattering or mean-spirited than the ones of Katharine Hepburn, W.C. Fields, and Clark Gable. The outrageous "Cannibal Capers" (1930) and a few other shorts may embarrass viewers today, but as host Leonard Maltin observes, ignoring these film falsifies the past of animation and the United States. This important and entertaining collection will delight anyone interested in the history of the Disney Studio, animation or American popular culture. (Rated G, suitable for ages 5 and older: cartoon violence, tobacco use, ethnic stereotypes) --Charles Solomon
Customer Review: Walt Disney - More Silly Symphonies
The vendor should be rated as excellent. The DVD was described precisely as stated in the details and I had no problem with it.
Customer Review: Great Collection of Shorts to Keep
Some of the shorts on this collection are not as well known as the ones on Volume One, yet I find that I know more of these. So it's a better treat for me. Also, I didn't find any issues playing this set of discs, unlike Silly Symphonies, in which Disc 1 didn't work consistently on all the players I tested it on. Moreover, this one came with the tin box, which was lacking on my Silly Symphonies copy.

Walt Disney Treasures - The Chronological Donald, Volume Two (1942 - 1946)
Walt Disney Treasures - The Chronological Donald, Volume Two (1942 - 1946)
As the number of cartoons in The Chronological Donald series indicates, Donald Duck was Walt Disney's biggest star during the '40s and '50s. Between 1941 and 1965, the studio made 106 Donald shorts, but only 49 Goofys and 14 Mickeys. With his flashpan temper, Donald was well suited to the more aggressive humor of wartime America. Donald's plump derrière got kicked, stung, swatted, or stuck in things with predictably pyrotechnic results. No character had to deal with less cooperative tools, and no character threw bigger tantrums when his equipment failed to work properly.
The Disney shorts of this era offer beautiful animation, lavish special effects, and elegantly painted backgrounds. But by 1942, Walt Disney's interests had shifted away from short films to features and war work. The artists at Warner Bros. and MGM were pushing the boundaries to make cartoons that were faster, brasher, and funnier. Compared to the work of Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, and Friz Freleng, the wartime Donald shorts feel tame. The mystery spoof "Duck Pimples" is one of the nuttiest shorts the Disney Studio ever released, but it can't match the take-no-prisoners insanity of Avery's "Red" cartoons, its obvious model.
Any serious Disneyphile or student of animation will want The Chronological Donald, as it's been impossible to see many of the cartoons for decades. The extras include "A Day in the Life of Donald Duck," a 1956 episode of "Disneyland" that features Donald arguing with Clarence Nash, the actor who provided his voice; and a conversation between host Leonard Maltin and Tony Anselmo, Donald's current voice. (Unrated, suitable for all ages: cartoon violence, tobacco use, ethnic stereotypes) --Charles Solomon

Customer Review: Imagination Central !
My nine year old daughter loves fairy books about Tinkerbell and her friends. She absolutely devours them as soon as I get them. What a boost for her imagination!
Customer Review: We LOVE this series!!!
We own all of this series! Started reading them when my daughter was 4 (she just turned 5 now), and they are age appropriate. Not too scary and always a happy ending. One book only takes us about 4-5 nights worth of reading together. The longer ones are good too "Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg" and "Fairy Haven and the Quest for the Wand", but they are a little bit scarrier than the short books (more appropriate for ages 5-7 I would think).

In the 1950s, Disney produced a host of short nature films that were groundbreaking both for their innovative perspective, combining fantasy with real-life nature photography, and their development and reliance on huge technological advances in cameras and filmmaking. Secrets of Life and Perri, digitally restored 16-mm films retrieved from the Disney archives, are two of the first live-action shorts to offer an up-close and in-depth look at the life cycles of animals, insects, and plants.

The discs in this classic Disney series are fast become collectors' items. If you love beautifully executed ad restored nature documentaries, purchase these while you still are able.
Customer Review: Perri Lives Again
My mom has told me all her life about seeing the movie "Perri" when she was a little kid and how much that movie just blew her mind because it was a full length movie in color about nature. It was nice to finally be able to share Perri with her, and any kids (and adults) who love nature and animals will instantly connect with Perri the squirrel and her crazy adventures. I didn't get to see any of the rest of the disc, but getting to share that movie with my mom and watch her face as she watched it was worth every penny. My mom assures me that the rest of the collection is a blast.
Walt Disney and the Quest for Community (Design & the Built Environment)
Walt Disney and the Quest for Community (Design & the Built Environment)
During the final months of his life, Walt Disney was consumed with the world-wide problems of cities. His development concept at the time of his death on December 15th, 1966 would be his teamâs conceptual response to the ills of the inner cities and the sprawl of the megalopolis: the "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow" or, as it became known, EPCOT.
This beautifully written, instantly engrossing volume focuses on the original concept of EPCOT, which was conceived by Disney as an experimental community of about 20,000 people on the Disney World property in central Florida. With its radial plan, 50-acre town center enclosed by a dome, themed international shopping area, greenbelt, high-density apartments, satellite communities, monorail and underground roads, the original EPCOT plan is reminiscent of post-war Stockholm and the British New Towns, as well as today's transit-oriented development theory.
Unfortunately, Disney himself did not live long enough to witness the realization of his "model city." However, EPCOT's evolution into projects such as the EPCOT Center and the town of Celebration displays a remarkable commitment by the Disney organization to the original EPCOT philosophy, one which continues to have relevance in the fields of planning and development.
Customer Review: Strictly for Disneyphiles and students of urban planning
Interesting discussion of Walt Disney's plans for the original Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, or EPCOT. Disney died before this project could break ground, making its academic exploration very, well, academic. Mannheim doesn't try to make much of an argument until the final chapter in which he says, correctly, in my view, that the Epcot Center theme park and nearby-but-unaffiliated New Urbanist community of Celebration effectively addressed the main points of Disney's plan while avoiding the probable pitfalls associated with simultaneously maintaining perfect order and individual liberty -- Walt's paramount goals. Very thoroughly researched and filled with nuggets sure to be of interest to serious Disneyphiles and students of urban planning.
Customer Review: A Serious and Enjoyable Work on Walt's Vision of Epcot
Steve Mannheim has written a wonderful academic treatise on Walt Disney and Walt's dream for Epcot. The focus of the book is the Epcot City, the development of the ideas and their ultimate fruition. Although the title is treated as an academic work, it can almost be considered a page-turner. Steve has done an impressive job of distilling New Urbanism concepts into a readable and understandable read (for us laymen). The genesis for the book was when a friend of Mr. Mannheim had described Walt's plan for another project after Disneyland about a city of tomorrow--where Epcot Center is today. This was the mid-1980's and there was not a lot of published information at the time. So, Mr. Mannheim began his research. Steven Mannheim holds a doctorate in planning and development. His current professional practices include real estate economics and development. As I stated in my review of Realityland, there is not a lot published on the history of Walt Disney World. This titles adds greatly to the literature and provides a solid focus on Epcot the City, its history, development and changes. The work starts with a look at Walt and the germination of the idea. There is a lot of focus on where Walt was, mentally and sociologically, as he began planning the Florida Project (also known as Project X). Mr. Mannheim deftly takes us through the history and theories that Walt was discovering about New Cities, Garden Cities and urban development. With the success of Disneyland, Walt felt vindicated that he could cure the ails of modern society. The biggest issue? Control. With Disneyland, Walt was able to push through the City Council to meet a lot of the building demands of Disneyland. With the Florida Project, he knew he needed more control. The book outlines what Walt, Roy and the leaders of the Disney Company were able to secure and create after Walt's passing. Mr. Mannheim spent a lot of time interviewing key members of the Company, the State of Florida, local government and Disney cast members. He provides a detailed look at how Disney (the company) figured out what to do after building Phase I of Walt Disney World. In looking at any historically-based research title, you have to consider the sources cited. Mr. Mannheim devotes 140 pages to the text and the remaining 59 to research notes and the bibliography. To a librarian and Disney Geek, this connotes a vast level of research on Mr. Mannheim's part. My only issue with the sources cited, is that a lot of the citations are from interviews conducted by the author. As of this review, the interviews have not been published. Talk about a dream publication! Mr. Mannheim, if you are out there, I would love to read the interviews that you have conducted. Bottom Line: I really enjoyed this title. The book is presented as an academic work but it is still an enthralling read and you can't put it down. Mr. Mannheim easily presents mundane concepts about planning and design and correlates them into the foundations of Disneyland and what we can surmise about Epcot the City. I would love to read the transcripts for all of the interviews that were conducted--there must be a vast goldmine of Walt Disney World-related history on those interviews. After reading this title, you will gain a vast appreciation for Walt's original ideas and the presentation of Walt Disney World as we know it. This title is geared more towards the serious Walt fanatic and the Epcot junkie. But if you like city planning, the origins of Epcot or theories about what could have happened--you will enjoy this book. [...]

Disney's Greatest 3
Disney's Greatest 3
Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Review: Great CD, Great Songs
My family loves listening to this CD. We have numerous Disney music CD's and we listen to them constantly in the car. I would defintely recommend this to any Disney fan.
Customer Review: more adult
The songs on this cd are a bit more "adult" than on the others. I really enjoy, but the kids don't really ask for this one.

Walt Disney Treasures - Disneyland USA
Walt Disney Treasures - Disneyland USA
To finance Disneyland he wanted to build, Walt Disney turned to the new medium of television. As host Leonard Maltin notes on this two- disc set of televised specials for the amusement park, Disney used the series to promote it, "and no one seemed to mind." ABC agreed to invest in return for a weekly one-hour program. The "Disneyland" TV show premiered on October 27, 1954: "Disneyland Story" introduced the park and its various lands, which would be the subject of future programs. The opening-day special, "Dateline Disneyland" (July 17, 1955), attracted an estimated audience of 90 million--virtually every television household in America. Hosted by Art Linkletter, Robert Cummings, and Ronald Reagan, the live broadcast includes such unplanned moments as Linkletter searching frantically for a microphone in Fantasyland. The Tenth Anniversary show (January 3, 1965) features cameos of Mary Blair and Marc Davis, two celebrated animation artists. Home movie footage of Walt pacing off distances at the barren site in Anaheim is intercut with peeks at forthcoming attractions. "Disneyland After Dark" (April 15, 1962) offers performances by Annette Funicello, Bobby Burgess, Bobby Rydell, Louis Armstrong, and a prepubescent quartet of Osmond Brothers. A must-have set for Disneyland buffs, Disney collectors, and nostalgic baby boomers. --Charles Solomon
Customer Review: Great Collectors or Disney Fan item!
I have watched this several times since it arrived a week ago. I visited as a child in 1965. The images from the 10th Anniv. show really brought back many great memories. A great addition to our collection.
Customer Review: Amazing footage!
If this DVD only had the opening day TV footage, it would be well worth the price. But the other features are also wonderful time capsules of different points in Disneyland's history. My only quibble is that mine did not come in the nice tin or have any of the little extras inside. This was an oversight on my part because the description did say there was no tin. I did NOT know that the tins were limited edition and that only the tinned versions came with the postcard inside. I took one star off the review because I think this could have been clearer and not hidden in the description, so please read carefully about which version you're getting. It's not that big of a deal to me because what really matters is what's on the discs themselves. It just would have been nice to have a complete edition.

Customer Review: Wonderful set of LPs!
This 3 LP set is amazing! The music is beautiful, and it brings back childhood memories of watching this film over and over and over again. I love all of them, and I can't pick a favorite. The stereophonic sound is amazing, especially considering the fact that this album was released in 1957. If you can purchase this for a reasonable price, it is well worth it! I'd pay anything for it. Words cannot describe how wonderful it is. Leopold Stokowski is a genius, and the fact that he and Walt Disney teamed up to create something as wonderful as FANTASIA is a miracle!

Customer Review: These Are Great For Kids!
TARZAN - READ-A-LONG is a fantastic thing for the kids and adults. It has the complete story of the Robert Louis Stevenson story of Tarzan with all the character voices and a great narration by actor Roy Doltrice (TV's Beauty & The beast) It has the entire original cast too. The voices and Sound effects are great. It's a reading tool too for kid! The menus are cleverly put together and the graphics are fun. The extras include music videos with sing-a-long capabilities and words as well. There is a game that you can find Tarzan and friends and a vocabulary section that everyone can learn foreign words. There are even two rock videos You'll Be In My Heart and Strangers Like Me. You can hear and see Phil Collins too. That is very good. The best part for the kids and me is the fact you can listen to this story in six different languages. A very cool feature I wish I had as a kid. Our kids today are going to be smart in several different languages. You should get this. It's fun and musical! (8-27-02)

Customer Review: Goofy teaches kids to be afraid
This colorful story is about Goofy's disastrous attempts to get to the clubhouse. Disney's dog-man tries many different modes of transportation, and all of them leave him in terrible trouble: he crashes his scooter, gets struck by lightning in his airplane, sinks his rowboat, etc. etc. Only at the end does he realize that walking to the Clubhouse is the best way to get there. I didn't like it. Sure it's just a cartoon, but this book seems to discourage kids from being adventurous. After Goofy fails at each attempt, the text reads "No Goofy No! Scooting (as well as "flying," "rowing," "bouncing," "gliding," "skating," "surfing," "sliding" and "sailing") is not the way to go." The flying page shows Goofy's plane getting struck by violent lighting bolts, which come from a monster-faced thunder cloud. The book includes a dozen flash cards. Each has an action word on one side and an illustation of that action on the other. An envelope to hold the cards is glued to the inside of the back cover.

Love it, great music. more advanced than the average high school piano player, but if you love it enough it'll make you practice more. I got this a while ago and now i'm in my second year in college and still play it :-)
Customer Review: Fun Piano Book
I think this is a great piano book. The song selection is great - it includes both up tempo songs as well as ballads. The arrangements are different from the original songs, which makes it both more fun and more challenging. These arrangements have a very jazzy feel. It's an intermediate level book, which is great for someone who hasn't played in a while or is looking to brush up on their skills. I would highly reccommend this book for any disney music fan.
Disney's Karaoke Series: Lion King
Disney's Karaoke Series: Lion King
Customer Review: Not good.
At first, I was excited to see it has been publish. But when I listened to it, I found that it was so different from my anticipation. Before I listened to this, I thought all the songs with vocals would be the original versions in the movie. And I thought the instrumental versions are just like the background music in the original songs. But the songs with vocal in this album were not sung by the initial performers, then it made all these songs strange, and all the initial comical, romantic and wonderful feelings lost. The instrumental versions are not good either. Some vocals haven't been removed. What has been removed was only the principal vocal. I just couldn't figure out why some vocals were retain in the instrumental version. Can they be called instrumental? I think this album is not good, even I can say that it is the worst of Disney Karaoke Series.
Customer Review: Timon and Pumbaa songs done horribly.
When I first got this Karaoke CD I was extremely excited. FINALLY, some Lion King music without vocals , I thought, and I was thoroughly impressed with everything. That is, until I got to my two favorite songs from The Lion King soundtracks: Hakuna Matata and Warthog Rhapsody. Some idiot took a cheap keyboard and did horrible renditions of the songs, rendering them to ghastly interpretations. The Hakuna Matata on this CD is the Broadway version-- which is an amazing version originally-- but it was menacingly torn asunder and put together again with some sort of synthesizer that basically destroyed the instruments, forming them into a song like something you'd hear from a "My First Piano Lesson" songbook. The rest of the songs such as Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Circle of Life and I just Can't Wait to Be King are the movie renditions simply taken from the actual MOVIE with the vocals removed, not redone. It makes you wonder why those morons in the recording studio redid Hakuna Matata and Warthog Rhapsody in the first place, when they could've just taken the original tracks from the soundtracks and removed the lyrics. And why the heck was the song Queen of the Jungle on there? That's not even a Lion King song! Besides that, the disc is not a complete waste. Enjoy singing all the other tracks, but stray away from Hakuna Matata and Warthog Rhapsody. I recommend looking up Priddis and getting their Lion King Karaoke CDs instead, they're actually good. This just shows how much Disney has evolved into a corporation based on quick money instead of enjoyment.

The Official Album: Disneyland/Walt Disney World
Though it's neither as comprehensive nor as elegantly presented as The Music of Disney: A Legacy in Song, this compilation is an enjoyable sampler of music from Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Naturally, the music's good for reliving memories of the parks, but when listened to at home, the best selections reveal previously unnoticed complexity. The oldest recordings, like "The Tiki Tiki Room" and "Grim Grinning Ghosts" (from the Haunted Mansion ride), are seamless show tunes that grapple inventively with the limitations of analog and mono. And the Main Street Electrical Parade theme song is a freaked-out Moog marathon that must be heard to be believed. This disc offers one of the best uses yet for your CD player's "program" function--pick out the songs like you'd pick out a ride, and never wait in line! --John Sanchez
Customer Review: Disneyland/disney world cassette
I have the disneyland/disneyworld offical album on cassette and still listen to it today its excellent for long car trips and we usually listen to it twice and i always bring it on the plane to disney world its very good and i have the millenium album with golden dream on cassette to so i say yes to both everyone reallly enjoys light magic on the offical album of disneyland and disney world. i give this album 5 stars same for the millenium one too.
Customer Review: Great Disney CD
This is a great album for any Disney fan to have. The CD features a variety of brief excerpts from the musical loops of beloved attractions from Disneyland and Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom such as "The Haunted Mansion", "Pirates of the Caribbean", and "Splash Mountain". It also includes music from a few of Disney's famous nighttime spectaculars including "Fantasmic", the "Main Street Electrical Parade", and "Illuminations". One highlight of the CD is the entire musical loop from the Disneyland Night Parade "Light Magic". While the parade proved to be unpopular and only ran for about a year, the music is great, mixing classic Disney songs such as "Be Our Guest" and "Step In Time" with Irish step dancing music a la Riverdance. While I would recommend either the official album for Disneyland and official album for Walt Disney World that is sold exclusively at the parks before recommending this one, I do think this is a great album as well and defiantly worth purchasing.

Customer Review: Buy this CD!
This CD is a wonderful collection of some 25(!) of the most beloved Disney hits. Indeed, the songs on this CD are all songs from the great Disney movies that you remember from your childhood. There's "The Bare Necessities" from The Jungle Book, "Supercalifragilisticexpialdocious" from Mary Poppins, and "So This Is Love" from Cinderella. What's also wonderful is that the hits are from all of the Disney greats like Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid. My whole family loves these songs, and often sings along with them. I have several personal favorites from this album, including "So This Is Love" and "Candle On The Water." But, heck, I love them all! So, what's the final verdict? Buy this CD you won't regret it!
Customer Review: Fun Disney songs from yesteryear to share..

Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids 2008 (Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids By Kids)
Children are perhaps Walt Disney World's biggest fans. On playgrounds and in classrooms, there's always excited talk about who went to Walt Disney World and what they did each day-or minute. It has become almost a rite of passage to visit America's most popular travel destination, and kids can be wonderful sources of information. Our book is written specifically for children, who range in age from 8 to 14.
Every area and attraction of Walt Disney World is covered, with kids' honest reactions and impressions included. There is a whole chapter devoted to each of the theme parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, the Disney-MGM Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom. Another chapter describes the rest of Walt Disney World, including Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, Fort Wilderness, Downtown Disney, and dining spots with kid appeal.
The book is updated annually, and the 2008 edition features an expanded scrapbook section for kids to preserve the magical memories of their trip to WDW, as well as a handy guide to the Magic Kingdom's new Princess and Pirate parties. We've also included more tips on finding Hidden Mickeys at Walt Disney World!
Customer Review: A must
My 6 year old boy initial reaction to going to Disney World was not as enthusiastic as one would expect. being a Disney fan myself i was highly disappointed until I realized that his reaction was due to the fact that he had a blurred idea of what there is in this World. i purchased this book and read a few pages everyday to explain what he is going to see and ride. The way it is set up is very understandable to kids. Now he cannot wait to go!!!!
Customer Review: Future Disney World trip
My wife and I are planning a trip to DW with our 2 kids, her sister, brother-in-law and 2 nieces. As a gift, we bought 2 copies of this book for the kids. One for their family and one for ours. Both families really like the book and find the information helpful, but not enough pictures of everything spoken about for the kids to get really excited about.
