I have the CDs of Fred Lee's book and have been totally energized. As a director of nursing, I can't wait to share these concepts with my staff. I plan on purchasing the book as well. I can't think of a book I would recommend more for managers. The concept of going above and beyond to provide a memorable experience for your patients is by far the best marketing tool I can implement.

The book was what I wanted. I hated paying more for postage than I did for the book. Also the book was bowed and I had to put heavy books on it to try to straighted it out. I was happy with the book, just not the shipping.

Golden Books are the best. Great illustrations and wonderful stories. My 4 year old daughter loves to have me read them to her at bedtime. I had the same books as a child in the 70's.


Hercules (A Walt Disney Masterpiece)
Not the egregious foul it seemed to be in theaters, Hercules stands up as an entertaining spritzer of an animated feature. The continual peppering of in-jokes and cultural references becomes less irksome on video. That there's no majesty or awe invested in the beloved Greek legends also seems less of an error. Also on the plus side is the bounciest Alan Menken music since Little Shop of Horrors. With Zeus's blood in his veins, young Hercules's amazing strength makes him an outcast (sorry, that still doesn't fly), so he trains with a satyr named Phil to become a hero. Along the way Herc meets Meg, a common mortal who falls hard for him. They're both against the jocular Hades, who has to destroy Hercules to take over Olympus. The hydra is the computer-animated set piece for this little number, a no-chance attempt to beat that wildebeest herd from The Lion King. --Keith Simanton

Our 7 year old daughter loves this movie! It was #1 on her Christmas list as we lost our original. Danny DeVito is hilarious! It's a great little movie about doing your best and "Going the Distance". Great message, great music, subtle adult humor, too.

By 1939, when the earliest films in this collection were made, Mickey Mouse was the most famous cartoon character in the world. The unsuccessful hunter in "The Pointer" (1939) and the irrepressible magician in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (1940) rank among his finest performances. In both films, he sparkles with vitality. But as Mickey grew more popular, more restrictions were placed on what he could do, and the character grew dull. Those restrictions become obvious when the viewer compares these films with the shorts on Walt Disney Treasures: Mickey Mouse in Living Color. In "Mickey's Birthday Party" (1942), he clowns and stumbles through a comic dance routine, but it feels like he's working for the laughs. In 1936, when a more impish Mickey danced with a deck of cards in "Thru the Mirror," the fun came from the stylish grace of his movements: That Mickey didn't need to mug for the camera. In the later films, Mickey serves as a genial straight man, with Pluto and other side characters supplying the comedy.

A new generation of animators faced the same problems and restrictions when they tried to revive the character in "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (1983) and "The Prince and the Pauper" (1990). The extras include some deleted animation from "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," and the five opening sequences from the "Mickey Mouse Club" (1955), the last time Walt Disney provided the character's voice. This is a great example of later Mickey Mouse Color Cartoons and it's biggest plus is the is had "Runaway Brain" the only Mickey Cartoon that has him become a monster. And the in jokes in the cartoon are many and hillarious.

This is where animation really got started. There were other animation studios doing shorts. It's just Disney's constant striving to raise the bar. And to keep raising it through the years. You'll see why Disney said "the house that mouse built". There is more edgy content with the warner brother/MGM bunch but these Disney shorts are quality.

my 4 yr old grand daughter loved this book. she can put it together forwards and backwards. we took turns putting in the pieces and making it a game. always finishing one puzzle before we started another one. we even loved it when the puzzle fell out of it frame when we turned the page. because we had to put the puzzle together again. pieces are big enough and easy to handle.

Though known for his utopian idealism, Walt Disney's vision had a dark side that frequently evinced itself in the animated features that made his legend. But seldom was Disney's cynicism about human nature more heartbreaking than in his studio's 1942 adaptation of Felix Saltin's nature-based novel. The film broke new ground in several areas, not the least of which it's sparing use of dialog: Bambi contains less than a thousand spoken words. That alone placed greater emphasis on an orchestral musical score than had any previous animated film, and Disney vets Frank Churchill and Edward Plumb responded by composing a surprisingly modern, dramatically evocative soundtrack that would net the pair an Oscar nomination. Tragically, Churchill would die before the film premiered. Painstakingly cobbled together from a variety of pre-tape era source elements in conjunction with its DVD debut, this expanded edition of the film's score is the most complete yet. The quartet of charming original songs by Larry Morey and Churchill would get the latter his second Oscar nod on the project, and they are joined here by "Rain Drops," the energetic choral demo recording that became the film's charming "Little April Shower." The disc concludes with the recorded reminisces of Disney himself, legendary animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston and a concise musical analysis by Henry Mancini. --Jerry McCulley

My goal is to collect all of the soundtracks for the classic Walt Disney animated films. Bambi has such hauntingly beautiful music in it. I thought it was a perfect one to buy this time of year (Spring).

Customer Review: Michael Kamen's Dalmatians
Michael Kamen created one of his feel-good scores with "101 Dalmatians". He obviously had some fun when he wrote the themes for Pongo and his clan of dalmatian puppies, funny and heroic sometimes. The theme for Cruella De Vil has some traces from the original music for the animated film. Dr. John's version of the Cruella song is quite good and catchy. This may not be Kamen's best work, but it will surely make you feel relaxed, excited, and happy.
