Customer Review: No real substance
Birnbaum's Walt Disney World Without Kids is meant to be a companion to the Birnbaum's Walt Disney World 2008 (Birnbaum's Walt Disney World). For a book like this to be useful, it needs to provide extensive information on things that would be of use to adults yet not was deemed unworthy of inclusion in the main guide. After all, if it's in the main guide already why do we need this book? The guide also needs genuine critiques of restaurants and hotels that would be most suitable for romantic (or at least quiet) outings. Detailed reviews of dinner shows would also be a plus. These are just a few examples that single adults and couples might find useful. The key is that readers need good details and honest evaluations for a book of this type to have any value. The only other guide of this type that I have read was The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World for Grown-Ups (Unofficial Guides) and it failed to offer enough of value to justify its purchase. Did Birnbaum's fare better? One undeniable strength is that this book retains the high production values of the Birnbaum's series. It's loaded with very nice photos. The writing is clear and concise making for a quick, easy read. In other words, the form is wonderful. But the substance, that's where we stumble. There are no real critiques or comparisons offered. The coverage is too shallow to allow you to truly discrimiate which places would be best suited to your needs. There is also too little material that isn't available in the standard guidebooks for the area. In the final analysis, there just isn't enough substance here to make it worth buying. If you're looking for a guide to Orlando primarily composed of photos and basic coverage of the area, then the Birnbaum's Walt Disney World 2008 (Birnbaum's Walt Disney World) is by far the better choice. If you want a more substantial book that is packed with detailed information then the The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2008 (Unofficial Guides) is your best bet. If you really want the full picture, buy both of them. But whatever approach you choose, save your money and skip this one.

This is perfect for girls aged 6-8 who love to draw. It would be good for older girls only if they like Disney fairies (they tend to outgrow them by age 8 or 9).

I bought the book for my 4 yr old who loves fairies. The basic concept she understood, but the technique was still a little too advanced for her. She enjoyed me helping her with it. I would recommend it as a stand alone for kids over about 7 yrs old, but younger than that expect to work with them as a joint project.

Customer Review: Great for the beginner
I have a number of the Walter Foster series and this is the one I wish I had gotten first. The Character drawing designs were some of the easiest to follow I have run across. The major advantage is that with with Genie Character you can draw just about anything he can change into. Only draw back is that the secondary characters, Raja the tiger, The Sultan, The flying carpet are only give a couple of pages total.

It is, anyway, a great buy for any Disney fan.

Customer Review: songs are ok, sound quality not great
The songs are actually good songs - but they seem to be re-recorded. They are not the original songs. The sound quality of the CD is poor - treble seems to be too high and not enough base. I played this on a CD player that has great sound quality with my other CDs, but not with this one. I am very disappointed in this CD. The sound quality is so awful, we listened to it once, and have never listened to it again. I would not recommend this CD.

I put this on when a friend was here and we were dancing and having a great time with each song that came up. I'm 56 and I felt like a kid again. There's the twist, the bunny hop, a great polka,the jitterbug and more. Personally, I was pleased that the songs were NOT sung by Disney characters....although the cover to the CD alludes to that. There are just a few quacks from Donald Duck and a tiny bit from Goofy and Mickey, just enough to flavor it. I can see it being fun for all ages. I use many songs with Dancing Hands hand taps, a fun percussion instrument that sounds like tap dancing.

Really tedious. A few good chapters, but on the whole, it's not about creative courage, it's about what Johnson happens to like about particular people. So the reader doesn't learn as much about whomever as one might hope.
Customer Review: Four stars for the facts, two for the tone...
If you ever read the syndicated political columns of William F. Buckley, the premier American literary conservative of his era, you undoubtedly recall that once in each effort he threw in an obscure vocabulary word, precisely used by him, never encountered by his readers before. It was educational, if you had a dictionary handy, but because this quirk of his was used judiciously, (one might say conservatively), it was forgiven. Mr. Johnson, obviously a fine scholar with a great education, who has rubbed shoulders with some of the best thinkers of the 20th century, has the Buckley flaw, but to a fault. It seemed that a word or a foreign phrase which baffled me popped up 300 times. I have four years of college and I'm not inexperienced in the world at age 63, (as of yesterday) but I found this word-dropping to be offensive. The one time I ever saw Bill Buckley in person, he did his trick in a way that also offended me: The week of Martin Luther King's murder I saw Buckley in a debate on civil rights with Julian Bond at Vanderbilt University, and Buckley, referring to the assassination, called it a "regicide" which was too cute by half, and should have been resisted by such a disciplined man. Johnson almost goes that far as well. One learns a great deal about the famous and the relatively famous thinkers and creators he profiles between these covers, but his prose style is cumbersome, and his attitude tedious. It took me weeks to read this, because I was only content with putting up with the book for four or five pages at a sitting. I know a lot more about the subjects of this volume now, but I also know a lot more about its author, and that makes me little interested in his other works.
