Customer Review: Good story that our 2 1/2 year old has enoyed over and over
Nice story and photos. We've read the book a lot to our 2 1/2 year old and he still loves it.
Customer Review: Unexpectedly Scary!
My twin 3-year-olds LOVE Little Einsteins! Fortunately, I think they are great on tv, so we thought we'd try some books, since the boys also love to read. To summarize, this book is about the gang helping a despondant Quincy deal with his scary dreams. They do this by using a dreamcatcher to catch his nightmare, then they all go into his nightmare together. They come upon an extremely disturbing Edvard Munch painting and by using an "imagination transformation" they change a grotesque monster into a Degas ballet dancer. They do the same with two cobras blocking the bridge to the exit - Quincy imagines they are silly neckties instead. My kids don't have any problems with nightmares, so I was unprepared for the topic of this book to be Quincy dealing with an Edvard Munch MONSTROSITY! Seriously, I find this...THING...very disturbing and scary. I just about flipped out when my kids reached the middle of this book to find the Munch monster. When they wanted to read it at bedtime, I talked them out of it. I have since discreetly "retired" this book and we read others such as Pirate's Treasure and Leo's Baton. If your kids are prone to nightmares or scare easily, I'd avoid this book. While I admire the idea that they were trying to help kids learn to control the outcome of nightmares by using imagination to "change" the dream, I'm telling you from an adult perspective that the Munch monster is disturbing and could CAUSE more nightmares than it resolves. After the Munch monster, the cobras that come next seem mild.
