Customer Review: Michael Kamen's Dalmatians
Michael Kamen created one of his feel-good scores with "101 Dalmatians". He obviously had some fun when he wrote the themes for Pongo and his clan of dalmatian puppies, funny and heroic sometimes. The theme for Cruella De Vil has some traces from the original music for the animated film. Dr. John's version of the Cruella song is quite good and catchy. This may not be Kamen's best work, but it will surely make you feel relaxed, excited, and happy.

Customer Review: Stupidly Stupendous!
Jafar was an awesome villain, but would he REALLY choose to come back for a sequel if he knew he was going to look like a silly, fanged phantom who disguises himself as Jasmine, sings showtunes and says things like: "I'll say goodbye to your boyfriend, Princesssss!" I'm guessing not. Although Jafar is still smashing, he's scripted badly. Jonathan Freeman is an extremely talented voice actor, particularly with this psychotic sorcerer, but Jafar was never a goof. And "granny's gonna grab ya!" just doesn't seem like something he'd say. So with Jafar, acting all strange, one must look to the other characters in the movie. Aladdin still lies, and is still obnoxious. Jasmine is stupid. She is portrayed as very, VERY submissive and idiotic. Genie is dumb. In the first movie, he was cheesy in a good way, but here, he tries to steal everyone's shine and just comes off as a buffoon. You end up feeling sorry for all of these characters who you loved so much in the last film. Iago (voiced by Gilbert Gottfried) is the only shining thing, really. I mean, he stayed in character. He is bitter, rude, crass, and hilarious-- every bit as hilarious as he was in the first movie. Abis Mal, the thief (voiced by Jason Alexander), is pretty dang funny, too, sometimes, 'cause he's such a schmo. But the movie just isn't good quality. There are several obvious mistakes, some inking errors, and more than a few misplaced lines. There are continuity errors- Aladdin is still in his street clothes, Genie still wears his restraints... And there are a few head-scratchers, like, why everyone is so enraged that Iago is back, and how he is such a traitor.. I mean, he is a parrot. "Return" takes "Aladdin" too seriously, and the insanity was one of the reasons why "A" was so much fun. Watch, but don't expect great things.

Customer Review: Scary. A MUST READ for Parents Considering a Disney Trip.
Forget the political propaganda some posters are trying to attach to this book. It isn't only for Conservatives or "right-wingers". Truth has no political ties. Everyone should know of the horrors Disney has been covering up for years. These facts aren't gained from one source, nor are they a product of the author's imagination. Schweizer dug deeply into Disney's hidden secrets, talking with a ton of employees, many who weren't afraid to be named. He includes dozens of documents that Disney tried to hide - documents that expose the child molesters Disney hired to entertain your children. Though Disney knows about unsafe conditions in their amusement park they do nothing to correct them. The pending lawsuits from deaths or serious injury are cheaper to deal with than the cost of repairing the dangers. It's all about profit and greed. If only half of this book is true it's a frightful read. You and your children may be at serious physical and emotional risk. If you go to Disney World and get hurt, don't sign anything. Don't let the older kids wander off by themselves, not even for a second. Read the book and judge for yourself the presented facts .
Customer Review: Poisonous
I bought this as an impulse buy, confusing it for Stewart's "Disney War." It took me about a page and a half to figure out it was actually right-wing propaganda written with the intent of furthering a Christian-based agenda to tear down the Disney empire for having had the audacity to get "too big." I worked at the Disney studios of the 90's as well as the theme park of the 80's. I was like many a mystified "Disnoid," having been raised to believe that if you wish upon a star you could get anything you wanted, and that you were always the star of the movie. Working at the parks deconstructed my concept of a world of "magic" and working for the studio instructed me on the ways and means of big corporations. Growth usually comes with pain but it's necessary. There's nothing less attractive than a grown adult stubbornly refusing to leave the world of childhood fantasy. I was bitter and cynical for a long time after my experiences and would have written a book similar in (initial) intent as the Schweizers, had I not grown up. Reading this book actually made me re-examine my bitterness and take the side of the Disney corporation. It is just a business after all. The Schweizers will try to convince you that Disney is "bad," using a bar for measuring badness that they assume their readers share. It's interesting to read about the things they criticize from a different perspective. An example--I had an accident while working at the park in the 80's and was amazed at the efficient way the company handled it. As a guest I would not have wanted to see someone stumbling around with a bloody head waiting for an ambulance, nor did I have any right to sue, as might have happened today. They whisked me away to a hospital and compensated me fairly, one time, for something that should not have happened but was, after all, an accident. Would the Schweizers be happier if everything stopped while stretchers were paraded through the park every time something happened? Of course much of the book is concerned with perversion, much of it centering on the "obvious" shared traits of pedophiles and the "gay mafia" that had a stronger presence in the Disney corporation than it currently holds. The ideas the Schweizers are trying to sell--something along the lines of if you go to Disneyland you're likely to be sodomized--would be disturbing if they weren't so ridiculous (quote: "some cross-dressers even tried to hold their OWN parade down Main Street, but it never got fully organized," ha ha). And the presentation--there's even a warning at the beginning of one of the chapters--is done in that "can you BELIEVE this?" style that makes Michael Moore's films so inflammatory. I found these chapters almost enjoyable on a salacious level--the Schweizers seem to take great glee in discussing the grittier, "naughty" topics, presenting just enough detail to entice the reader but withholding as much to make the reader curious, a good advertisement for the very thing they would condemn: "Just how bad ARE Larry Clark's movies/photos? I MUST know for MYSELF." Of course, in the Schweizer world the worst thing you can possibly do is be a man who loves other men. To quote the film "Victor/Victoria": "Kill him but mustn't kiss him." There's rampant misinformation as the Schweizers bend facts to further their agenda, making these authors the ultimate hypocrites since the point of their book is to point out that this is what the Disney Corporation is doing. I know at least two of the people quoted in the book and their comments were not solicited; they were taken from public resources and quoted completely out of context. Hardly surprising since the foundation of many a Christian's religious belief system is based on this process. I know very few Christians who have slogged through the bible, even less who have taken the time and energy to research the meaning behind the book. With that in mind I did my best to give "Disney: The Mouse Betrayed" a thorough, unbiased and fair reading. There are sections that are well researched and present indisputable truths; ten years on the world has become more than aware that there was a lot of money-grubbing, greed, and deceit involved in the "Eisner" years of Disney. No one is really surprised anymore that big corporations deal in this sort of excess, even if they are organizations founded on providing family entertainment. However, I find it interesting to note that Disney is still doing fairly well for all of that (and for better or worse) and that the Schweizers' book has faded into obscurity (it can be had for a buck twenty-five on this very page). Their would-be poisonous diatribe against The Mighty Goliath failed; the antidote, much like the cure for the obsessions of Christian fantaticism in general, was education and rationality.

Customer Review: Best book for travel challenges!
If you or a family member suffers from food allergies, motion sensitivity, mobility issues, fears, or any other special needs or challenges, this book and show how you can have a fantastic time at Walt Disney World! This book has a lot of the information from the PassPorter's Walt Disney World combined with additional information for those with travel disabilities and allergies. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that it really doesn't cover the Disney Cruise Line all that much.

It's a beautiful book. We purchased it for our grandson. He was around 3 1/2 years old. He has other "Find" books that are harder to search out. I think this one was just a little too easy for him. I would highly recommend it for under 3 years old though.

My son loved several of the other books in this series, and so I got this one without giving it much thought. I was disappointed because the Incredibles page has several people shooting one another. I found it very inappropriate for my 2 year old. :(

So it is no surprise that this collection has all the artistry, pathos, and musicality that it so deserves." ~ Dave Grusin, Liner Notes - 2002 ~ Dave Grusin, an expert arranger, conductor, pianist, film scorer himself has described this album so perfectly. The choice of material in this CD is impeccable with Monica Mancini's graceful interpretations and not to mention the flawlessly beautiful arrangements by Torrie Zito, John Calandrelli, Michael Lang, Patrick Williams, George Doering, Ray Ellis, Harvey Cohen and John Frizzell. There are twelve theme songs from various remarkable films in this recording and most of the tracks were backed up by an orchestra with the exception of a few. The theme song from the movie "Summer of '42" penned by the creative husband-and-wife-team of Alan & Marilyn Bergman and composer Michel Legrand "The Summer Knows" is one of my top choices from this collection. Splendidly arranged by Michael Lang and Harvey Cohen on string section, she renders this timeless song so true to its essence and making it the most beautiful version, bar none! Burt Bacharach and Hal David's "Alfie" (from the movie of the same title), is a moving song accompanied only by the sublime piano playing of Michael Lang. She has an exquisitely beautiful voice, the kind that still shines without the trimmings and backing up of an orchestra, (the kind that still glows even on A Cappella singing). Another affecting song and a favorite of mine is "Too Late Now," a Burton Lane and Alan Jay Lerner treasure and theme from the movie "Royal Wedding." The orchestral arrangement was done by Torrie Zito, a fine pianist/arranger/conductor who worked briefly with the legendary musical icon, Frank Sinatra. I loved the way he injected a classical touch on his arrangement, almost sounding like one of Claude Debussy's masterpieces. I would say that this is one of the best tracks. Ditto with another Torrie Zito arrangement, Johnny Mandel and Paul Webster's "The Shadow of Your Smile" from the movie "The Sandpiper." Ms. Mancini gave these classics the retire-the-trophy-treatments and made them her very own. The lovely opener, Ennio Morricone and Gregg Field's "Cinema Paradiso," arranged by Jorge Calandrelli, is also one of the standouts. Another beauty is "I'll Never Say Goodbye" from the movie "The Promise" with piano accompaniment by Michael Lang. The finale "Over The Rainbow" from "The Wizard of Oz" is simply divine with orchestral arrangement by Ray Ellis. This recording produced by Ms. Mancini's musician husband, Gregg Field, truly showed off not only the singer's vocal artistry, but her classy and elegant style of singing. Thank you Ms. Mancini for your wonderful gift of music. Music to enjoy forever!
Customer Review: Magnificent Monica!
My favorite song of all time is "The Shadow of Your Smile" from the movie "The Sandpiper". Until now, the 2 best versions of it were by Barbra Streisand and Tony Bennett. By FAR, this is THE best version of that song. Pure, without "vocal gymnastics", screaming, yelping or other artificial "stylings".. here it is sung as it was written, perfectly performed with beautiful orchestration. The rest of the album is no less miraculous. It is stunning. "A Day in the Life of a Fool", "Cinema Paradiso" and the haunting and tender "Theme from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" are just as lavish and well-crafted. Okay Monica, now could you release one album a year instead of one album every 3 years? Pleeeeassee??

She does mention that there's a scary octopus song, but I couldn't detect anything scary about the music; therefore, I believe one of the songs makes her think of something in the "Little Mermaid" movie. If your child likes princesses as much as mine, then I'm sure it will be very much enjoyed.

More is not necessarily better. A glitzy Hollywood cast and a big budget did not improve the wonderful 1957 teleplay (or its equally charming 1964 remake) upon which this version is based. This is partly because Brandy, cast in the title role, cannot act. Not helping matters are Whoopi Goldberg as the prince's mother and Jason Alexander as his valet. Their shtick wears thin very quickly. However, Paolo Montalban is charismatic as the prince, and Whitney Houston plays a fairy godmother with pizzazz. The production cost millions, and is certainly lavish, but the whole affair feels forced and overdone, reminding one of a prom queen wearing too much makeup. It does deserve credit for a multi-ethnic cast, the addition of two new songs and a hip attitude. However, the 1964 version (the original was not taped) is much sweeter and more romantic. I purchased this dvd for my four-year-old granddaughter for Christmas. She loves Cinderella, singing,dancing and music. Among other lessons,we are trying to teach tolerance. This dvd presents a very talented and diverse cast of characters. She viewed it and loves it.

Customer Review: Another Carl Barks Gem
Wether for a Collector or for a Kid( and a Kid at Heart), this item is great. Donald is usually the bumbling, screeching Duck, but here he is the Bumbling Screeching Master/Expert of ...[ pick your choice]. The specialist mastery that is shown here is some more obscure items, but they are just superb and superb fun. The more common Master of ... item is Donald as the master Mechanic, and Donald gets to eventually fix Scrooges Trains( on the cheap of course). Anyways, this is one of the better produced editions, and an accompanying Essay shows some insight that collectors will love, but may be a bit much for kids, however the fun of the comics will be great. Family friendly item, Adult friendly as well. At this price it is more than the regular comic, but since Harvey has decided to change their main titles to that annoying Manga/anime stuff, the lovers of the Carl Barks/Don Rosa style of Classic Ducks will be overjoyed with this All American Gem. ENJOY !!!!!!!!!!!

Customer Review: Sweet Retro Goodness
This book is great for any Dumbo fan! I enjoy the illustrations, which were done by Disney artists of the time. The story is very much like the movie. One reviewer states that there is nothing about Dumbo losing the magic feather and believing in himself, however it is in there. Another, reveiwer felt some of the lines were odd. Personally, I adore those lines! The line about the pension makes me laugh out loud. This book might be more wordy than picture books of today, but as an educator and avid reader, I appreciate books that might make a child sit and pay attention for longer periods of time. Our society has become too instant, too immediate, and believe me those ideas are reflected in how little time children want to take on their school work.
Customer Review: It's Missing the Point
In this book, the crows give Dumbo the feather, and he flies with it...The end! The book completely skips over Dumbo realizing he DID NOT need the feather to fly. So we miss maybe the actually significant points of the movie: Dumbo can do whatever he puts his mind to, and realizes that his big ears are an asset and not a liability. The little Golden Book version does not make this mistake.

Disney's Flubber
Disney couldn't resist the temptation to remake 1961's popular comedy The Absent Minded Professor, so they cast Robin Williams as Professor Philip Brainard (a role vaguely related to the character originated by Fred MacMurray), and the result is a comedy that, frankly, doesn't fully deserve its modest success. It's admittedly clever to a point, and certainly the digitally "flubberized" special effects provide the kind of movie magic that's entertaining for kids and parents alike. The professor can't even remember his own wedding day (much to the chagrin of his fiancÃ©e, played by Marcia Gay Harden), and now his academic rival (Christopher McDonald) is trying to steal his latest and purely accidental invention--flying rubber, or ... flubber. The green goo magnifies energy and can be used as an amazing source of power, but in the hands of screenwriter John Hughes it becomes just another excuse to recycle a lot of Home Alone-style slapstick humor involving a pair of bumbling would-be flubber thieves. There's also a floating robot named Weebo and some catchy music by Danny Elfman to accompany dancing globs of flubber, but the story's too thin to add up to anything special. Lightweight fun, but, given the title, it lacks a certain bounce. Of course, that didn't stop Disney's marketing wizards from turning it into a home-video hit. --Jeff Shannon

Robin Williams is a great comic talent. The Absent Minded ProfessorThe Absent-Minded Professor (Widescreen Edition) was a great movie in its day and still is a good movie today in the year 21st century. Disney studios should not try to remake great old movies with great current talents in order to make more money. This is not something that Walt would have wanted. Instead Disney studios should take the money they use to remake old hits and make great new movies.

The soundtrack in total is better than most Disney Films...But the song "I'll Try" is a classic and the CD should be purchased to hear the singing and songwriting of Jonatha Brooke. Why this song did not get an Oscar nod, when songs of less substance do each year is perplexing. If you liked the film or did not even see it...the CD is worth the price. In addition Jonatha Brooke has many more CDs out of her music and one can instantly be hooked (no pun intended) at first listen...

The DVD read-along version of Lilo & Stitch grabs attention with almost too many cool features to collapse into a manageable bite. For starters, you'll need to find your way around a screenful of flags. Feeling unambitious? Listen and read along with the English narration, featuring the original movie voices of Ving Rhames and Tia Carrera. Up for a challenge? Flex your foreign-language muscles with the Spanish, French, German, or Italian versions. Then you're free to follow a condensed account of the spunky Hawaiian orphan girl who unknowingly adopts an alien. Future MTV addicts will want to skip forward to the music videos (the A*Teens' "Can't Help Falling in Love" and a children's chorus rendition of "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride"), while gamers will go for the feature that reinvents the remote as a joystick. The song section parades lyrics along the screen (take your pick of languages), and the vocabulary area allows for slipping in and out of foreign tongues while learning words like "ohana" (family). Two other options, "Search the Web" and "The Magical World of Disney," aren't much more than commercials, but if you like movie trailers, click away. Lilo represents a new, bookletless breed of read-along, but, for technophobes, it's comforting to know that its volcano of options isn't about to blow. Customer Review: Good Concept, Bad Delivery
Captioning is a great way to teach children how to read. Unfortunetly, the captioning in this video is small and hard to read. Also, the words change sizes as they are being read. You would think this would make it easier to follow along but it doesn't - it just confuses things. On the good side of things these are great stories, the characters are familiar to many children and the music videos are fun. The other languages are a bonus too. Read-TV is a much better way to teach children to read through captions. The text is big and kid-friendly, the stories are sweet and the production values are great.

This disc has a story, 2 songs, 2 music videos, a vocabulary section, a handful of preveiws, a game, and 2 computer web links. The story is the same as the regular CD read-along, but I think it's funny to hear them speak other languages. There are 2 songs from the movie, "He Mele No Lilo" and "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride", to sing along with. The 2 music videos are the A*Teens "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You" and "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride." The vocabulary section is educational because you can learn beach-related words in 5 languages. (Swimmerifen, ha ha!) The previews are previews, what more can I say. The game isn't very hard, so it will be easy for littler kids. (I, being 12, didn't enjoy it that much.) I can make no comment on the web-links, because I can't do them on my computer. Well, MY favorite part was the sing alongs, and the "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" music video, though there was a preview of a computer game I particularly enjoyed. All in all, this is good for Lilo & Stitch fans of all ages. (Save the ones that only liked it for the Elvis music)

I ordered this book because of an excellent recommendation from a friend. The DISNEY PRINCESS: THE DK ESSENTIAL GUIDE is a must have for any young princess fan. However, although my daughters don't know it, I bought this book for me. As with any DK Guide, The DISNEY PRINCESS: THE DK ESSENTIAL GUIDE is logically laid out; there is a section devoted to each of the top eight Disney Princesses: Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan, and Pochahontas. Ariel. Aurora. Belle. Jasmine. Snow White. Cinderella. Say any one of these names and many little girls will sigh over any one of their stories. Princess tales are the stories of dreams come true. (Note: This book is currently unavailable. Perhaps that is a good thing--to prevent cruel stories of a prince coming to rescue us. As if that is going to happen when in reality that prince often turns out to be the ogre in disguise. Never mind. Back to the lovely little book.) The fabulous DK publisher has set up "Princess: The Essential Guide" as a scrapbook, or memory book, of these lovely girls, who each have completely individual identities. Please follow this description of one princess to learn the type of book this is. Belle. My personal favorite. The only princess with brown hair. (Normally, as a redhead, I choose the redheads. However, I do not like the idea that a mermaid envies life on land and wants to discard her essence to fit in.) On the other hand, Belle, out of deep love for her father, is willing to sacrifice her happiness to live in the castle with a beast. The first two pages about Belle outline the basic story and describe Belle's character and interests. The next two describe and provide illustrations of Belle's world. The map of the village and outlying areas are the most striking section. This is true of each of the princess maps. Then the last two pages outline how Belle learns to love the Beast. Ah, if only this principle were true in real life. Think of how many less than beautiful men and women would have the opportunity to love and be loved. This is a beautiful book. Since it is no longer available, you will not be forced to consider adding this book to your daughter's library and continue presenting such impossible dreams. What? You think I'm a cynic? Yes, I am, but I well remember what a friend recently told me. "My daughter's just a little girl. If she wants to believe in dreams, let her. Reality will come soon enough." Well said.

Customer Review: A Delightful Read
This delightful novel has rekindled my desire to read or re-read the classics. I picked it up for no particular reason other than I had never read Hugo. I didn't expect much: My experience with the classics in high school and college was that they are dull and not worthy of modern reading. But, to my pleasant surprise, I discovered a fascinating book that is rich in wonderful characters and vivid descriptions of 13th century Paris. This is a very good book and it's easy to see why it has stood the test of time.
Customer Review: Notre Dame de Paris -- C'est perfect!
After a recent trip to Paris with my son on a business trip, I decided it was crazy that I had been to Paris and inside Notre Dame so often yet had not read this classic novel. As someone who loves modern Paris, this book captivated me with its vivid portrayal of life in medieval Paris. What a far cry from Baron Hausman's modern Paris -- a Paris with teeming with squalor, poverty, vagabonds -- and the King's Court. Hugo paints wonderful portraits of the main characters -- the hunchback bellringer of Notre Dame, Quasimodo; the tormented archdeacon, Claude Frollo; the exotically beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda. All of these characters and the city of Paris come to life in a way that transports one back 650 years. My only criticisms of the book are the couple of chapters that painstakingly outline the street detail of Paris and the layout of Notre Dame. For me, these interrupted the flow of the story, the development of the characters and left me quite bored. As soon as Hugo got back into the core story and plot, I was re-captivated. I do wish that the original French title was preserved -- Notre Dame de Paris -- rather than the English "Hunchback of Notre Dame". While Quasimodo is certainly a core character, the book is a story about medieval Paris, the daily life of the city, the ordinary citizens of the growing city,the privileged class and themes of love, passion, death and honor. For someone misled by the title, this book is far richer, deeper and more complex than just the story of a deformed bell-ringer of Notre Dame in spite of the images that are etched in most people's minds, a great many who haven't read the book. This is truly one of those novels that deserves its rightful place in the pantheon of literature classics.

The five tracks on this album performed by the Dickens Carolers are pure heaven! You can hear each part distinctly, yet they all blend well. The choral direction adds just the right touch to each song. On "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!" you will think a pipe organ has learned how to speak words. Likewise, in "Carol of the Bells" you will think the humans are the bells. I wish they would record more of the songs in their repertoire, as this is the only album I am aware of that contains acapella Christmas carols. Pure Heaven!

The Christmas Brass charts are extremely well done. If you're a fan of big band/ high brass music this cd is a no brainer! "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph" are amazing! The acapella selections, especially "Carol of the Bells" are nice editions to this cd along with the more traditional arrangements performed by the orchestra. This cd is hard to find, but Amazon has the import to order, if you're willing to wait 3 weeks.. Don't hesitate to purchase this cd!

This is a good Donald Duck comic album. It's first and main story is called the Terror of the River and is about Donald and his nephews trying to fend off a pursuing "Sea Serpent" from their house boat in the Mississippi River. I thought this was a very good story. The second story is about Donald's misadventures trying to train seals when him and his nephews have a day at the beach. And the third and comical story is about Donald Duck being a camp counselor for the Junior Wood Chucks trying to show his "bravery and heroism."

my kids and i have always loved this cd. we have all of the radio disney cds in our collection. but this is our favorite. we just the think the songs are so much fun for the kids as well as the adults. it brings back a lot of memories. so when our original cd got scratched, we were all disappointed. because you can't find this cd in the stores any more. but thanks to amamzon.com we were able to replace it at a reasonable price. now we are all happy again.

Customer Review: Pop goes the Eagle.
This is the last of this story arc, with the man calling himself the Eagle getting himself killed in the final story. Of course it isn't over and done with, as we will see in Season Two (whenever it is released to us). If I have any complaint about these episodes, the plot threads sometimes seem too simplistic and cliched for dealings with a criminal mastermind with truly enormous plans. The big shootout at the end was a contrivance belonging to TV westerns of the 50's, and as such seemed unsatisfactory to me. Admittedly, this was a kid's action series. But what comes off best are the developement of the central heroes of the series. Diego (presumably a young man in his early 20's) becomes a little more human, and the hero-sidekick relationship between him and Bernardo, which started in the 4th DVD, begins to develope quite nicely. The sitcom elements that were always present seem more on the surface. Fun to watch, like the others.

Customer Review: Another new twist on old favorites.
The previous reviewer was correct. Being a Japanese import album, many of the performers on this album are from Japan and their lyrics are not as clear as the English-speaking performers. For me, though, that is part of this album's charm. I love how "supercalifragilisticexpealidocious" sounds like a bunch of drunk friends having a great time at karaoke. Sometimes the results are unintentionally laughable like the chorus of "Go the Distance" or the antics of "Hakuna Matata." As good and charming as the Japanese performers are, the English-speakers turn out some amazing performances with "Chim-Chim Cheree" and the "Electrical Light Parade." Sometimes amazing & sometimes hokey, but if you like an odd twist on well known songs, Dive into Disney is a lot of fun.

There's two things you should know before I begin this review: 1. I'm a big Reel Big Fish fan. 2. I'm a big Disney fan. So, I learned about this album through my knowledge that Reel Big Fish did a cover of the Main Street Electrical Parade. It's like a mixture of two of my favorite things. I also think it's pretty clear that some bands on this album don't speak English, which I feel is the only problem. The greatest example would be the cover of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. While it is a ska/reggae cover (which I like), the verses are done in some strange over-tone that makes them illegible, and the band almost screams the chorus, barely getting out the word supercalifragilisticexpialidocious or any of the lines in between. I know it's a hard word to say, but you should have it after you watch that part of Mary Poppins a few times. The fact that Japanese bands are on the album does not ruin it, though. Musically, the covers by the non-American bands are very good. I just really don't care for the Japanese Pop kind of songs, which a few do appear. The only song I dislike, though, is the Yo-Ho cover, only because Snuff actually sings in a different language (I think) except for the Yo-Ho part in the chorus. But each cover is very good. I personally love the covers by Reel Big Fish and Voodoo Glow Skulls (because I love ska music), but I think the best cover on the entire album is the Mickey Mouse Club March. I think maybe places should have been traded with it and The Rescuers song so the March could have been the last song on the album. It's definitely the best. So, through all this blabbering, I hope you've come to know that the album is very good and should be bought. But buy it used. I don't think I could spend $40 on just a CD. Later kids.

I took a few minutes to read all the reviews of this book first, and I must agree with the previous reviewers. They were all spot on about this book. My company is in the theme park design business so we naturally gravitate towards any Disney related books that we can learn from, and speaking from that "point of view"... anyone interested in "details" about how Disney thinks and works (How their designs happen) should certainly add this one to their library. As time goes on the 'greats' who created the Disney magic are leaving us one by one, and from what we (at Denny Magic Studios) observe in the theme park business...Other parks are really not paying enough attention to what these old timers did, and what they had to say... So in our humble opinion, we think that the existence of these written "words of wisdom" are really important jewels that should be studied and put to work well into the future. Right now in 2009 we are all in this "rough" economy, but things WILL improve soon and pundits have said that we are moving from an industrial society to a creative society, and creativity needs to be fed with a healthy dose of entertainment. Fellows like John Hench had the right ideas, and those ideas and techniques are even more important to preserve, and put to good use... today, more than ever before.
Customer Review: Of the Disney books out there, this is the best.
A bit lacking in the real nuts and bolts, but this is clearly a well done overview into the minds of some of the best Disney has to offer. Easy to read, and also a pleasure to read, left me wishing that disney appoints some one to really pick John's mind in case he leaves us some day, now that would be a tragedy, if we loose 1/2 of what this man has learned over a delightful lifetime of serving his customers and guests. Reading this brought me back to the B/W days of TV waiting for Walt, but Walt couldn't have ackomplished anything if it wasn't for the love of the work these people do, and have for the work they love to do.

Customer Review: AWESOME MOVIE!
This movie is SO GOOD!!! It's a true story about a white coach and a black coach in 1950's America who join forces and coach a high school football team who just began integration. It is about racial equality and handles this subject in a wonderful manner. I love this movie so much, I can watch it over and over and over. It is a heartwarming movie and it really makes you think about racial issues, too, in a very good way. Also, the soundtrack is awesome!!

I bought this book for my 4 year old niece and now we can't read from any other book! There are 12 stories, all with the Disney Princesses center stage. There is enough text to make for a nice bedtime story without being too "wordy". The pictures are beautiful and taken from the classic movies, as well as new art. The tall, thin, hardcover is easy to hold and read while cuddled up in a toddler bed too!

Customer Review: A Great Look at Disney's Imagineers
This has been an eagerly anticipated book in the Disney community. Since their inception with the creation of Disneyland, the Imagineers have always been the architects and dreamers of Walt's visions. Many of the names that you read about in the book will be familiar to Disney enthusiasts; as the name of the book implies, these are the legends of Disney Imagineering. Jeff Kurtti is a well-known and much-admired name in the Disney community. He has written many seminal works on the history of the theme parks, animated films, characters and theater. Since The World Began is one of his more treasured books. Jeff is also known for his work on several award-winning documentaries and as a consultant for film and theater. Currently, he is working with the Walt Disney Family Museum. The late Bruce Gordon served as editor on the project and his talents are seen throughout the book through the layout and design. Bruce was the author of The Nickel Tour, Walt's Time and The Art of Disneyland (with Jeff). In an interview with Didier Ghez, Jeff talks about the motivation behind the book: The inspiration for Walt Disney's Imagineering Legends was John Canemaker's Walt Disney's Nine Old Men. I say inspiration, since my book comes nowhere near the depth and erudition of John's great work, but the inspiration was to create a work that would familiarize people with the core team of creative people within the initial development of Disneyland. There are new photographs and concept art throughout the book. The layout is very contemporary and very appealing; you never feel lost in columns of text (although, Jeff is a great writer). My only issue with the layout is that some of the artwork and photographs are spread across two pages. Sometimes, it is difficult to get a good view of the artwork. Bottom Line: This work is for everyone. Jeff has created a book that lays a solid foundation of knowledge for Disney enthusiasts of all levels. Whether you are new to the Imagineers or a seasoned researcher, this compilation solidly portrays Imagineering and their importance within the Disney Company. This book will be within constant reach on my bookshelf for many years. It will also be an essential addition to every enthusiast's library. Future Disney researchers will be thanking Jeff for years to come. You need to own this book.

It's a great concept for a book and projector. The images when best focused are very small and that is a downside. It is hard to see the slide numbers when the images are projected on the wall. When the projector is moved back, the picture gets larger, but it is still difficult to get it into full focus.

Customer Review: Just o.k.
I bought this book with the hope that it could replace the videotape that my four-year old son is wearing out. He likes for me to read this book to him but he always stops me so he can fill in the gaps in this adaptation. He was especially touched by the scene in the movie where Buzz fails to fly and realizes he is a toy, but this scene is omitted from the book, so we always have to recreate it, which can be fun. Still, he was disappointed not to see it in the book and always, I mean always, asks why it was not included. The illustrations are very good; they appear to be straight from the movie but, overall, this book doesn't capture the spirit of the movie. It is a good option for travelling if you don't want to bring the video or dvd and you can act out the omitted scenes with your child.

Customer Review: Has it really been 44 years?
I remember taking our children--11, 8, 5, and 4--to see Mary Poppins when it was first released. My, how time flies! The music is still just a delightful as it was in 1964--not what adult tastes might call a great musical, but certainly an entertaining musical that plays not only to children's ears. At the age of 75, I still find this a happy listen.

Such analysis generally points to politically progressive or radical themes touched on in the film, including women's suffrage, the plight of the homeless, and animal rights, as well its mockery of British Naval militarism, and the anti-Capitalist implications of the Banks' children fomenting a panic at their father's bank. Do we need further reason to love and adore the seemingly oh-so-sugary innocent supernanny? The musical and it's soundtrack is highly recommended for all children, and for adults who refuse to "grow up" too! As a single Mom I have found a perfect way to get your kids involved in beginning to read, and beyond. Since your kids are bound to know all the characters and the voices getting them involed in following along with the written story is as easy as it comes. Later they will read the stories themselves again and again. Not only is this collection entertaining for the kids but you parents will not get bored with them as well. As you know those long trips to Grandma's house you can get pretty sick of those "Sing a Long" kids songs after the first few times through them. A real bargin, you get a greate product for a greate price, deffinaly worth the money! My girl 5,5 years old just love these stories aboute the Lion king, she lissens to them in the car and on her cd-player in her room. We have put the Cd in a hard cd case and bought a plastic box for the books, the box they come in were not that sturdy, and the books could have been ruined if we did not put them somewere else, especially when she wants them in the car, and then out of the car in her room and so on... We will definatly buy more books from this serie! highly recomend them, you will not get dissapointed.

People sometimes don't consider it because it doesn't have a lot of colorful pictures. It has what you need. It is direct and to the point. It has excellent planning and trip recording sections. If you are looking for a practical guide book, this is the one to get.

Customer Review: Only Chuck Norris would be worse than Matthew Broderick
Comparing the Robet Preston feature presentation to the made for TV version might be unfair, but folks, save your money. This edition of the Music Man has been put through the Disney Smoothie machine turning a first rate Broadway Musical into a dubbed over, under-acted snoozer. Only Chuck Norris would have been a worse choice for Harold Hill and that's only cause Chuck can't sing. Obviously trying to top Robert Preston is a difficult job, but Matthew Broderick doesn't even come close. He's too young to have been a "con-man" with any experience. Besides, Disney costume people have him stuffed into a too tight costume and he looks like an overstuffed cheese Danish. Disney also continues to over-sex their recent movies by placing Ms Chenowith in a way, way too-tight outfit and has her waddling and wiggling herself down the street. Librarians in those days often worked in closed stacked libraries where going up and down ladders to retrieve a book was common. I can't fathom how the heck Chenowith got up the short flight of steps to her porch, let alone up and down a ladder. Out of place and out of time. And finally (aren't you glad this is almost over) the members of school board (originally played by the Buffalo Bills Barber Shop Quartet) do a good job, but the original Buffalo Bills brought not only excellent singing skills, but a range of sizes, body types, personalities etc that this Disney disaster can't touch. Grab the original - fast forward over the Buddy Hacket dance number - and enjoy a classic.

This CD is great!! Of course Kristin Chenoweth steals the recording as Marian Paroo, but Matthew Broderick holds his ground. Alot of people try to compare him to Robert Preston, but Broderick doesn't sound like him and they have dfferent voice tones. Anyway, Broderick is great, BUT his voice just doesn't do it on "Ya Got Trouble". That's the only thing wrong w/ this recording. The supporting cast shines too. Debra Monk is great, Molly Shannon is good, David Aaron Baker does a great rendition of "Shipoopi" and Boyd Banks is a cute and loveable Winthrop whos lisp isn't overdone. Overall this is a great rendition of The Muusic Man. DEFNINTLY worth the buy.

I actually purchased this a a Christmas gift for my two nieces. They are 5 and 2 (soon to turn 3). Like most kids, anything Disney related is usually a hit. I ordered it early and after telling my brother about it he asked if they could have it early so that the girls could enjoy it through the month. You see, they love listening to CD's in the car and at home. It does have Disney twists on some of the classics -- car rides are lots of fun with everyone singing along.

Film critic and historian Leonard Maltin, who provides introductions for both discs included in The Chronological Donald, Vol. 4: 1951-1961, points out that Walt Disney continued to make Donald Duck cartoons well after his studio had stopped creating titles featuring Goofy, Pluto, and even Disney figurehead Mickey Mouse. Perusing the nearly three dozen items included here, itâs easy to see why the "wise-quacking duck" was still in business nearly 30 years after his creation. This stuff is brilliant: clever, funny, endlessly inventive, and sometimes even educational, it simply never gets old. Of course, some are better than others; "Trick or Treat," to name just one, features Huey, Dewey, and Louie, allied with the hag Witch Hazel, taking their Halloween revenge on their mean and stingy uncle, with not one but two original songs, one of them a hilarious "dance" number after Hazel puts a spell on Donaldâs feet, all crammed into about eight minutes. Elsewhere, we find traditional nemeses like Chip ânâ Dale (particularly good in "Working for Peanuts," which was originally produced in 3-D) and Black Pete, as well as a variety of newer adversaries, both "human" and animal, on whom the hot-headed duck unleashes his notorious temper. Of particular interest to some will be the educational shorts like "Mathmagic Land" (at nearly 30 minutes, itâs several times longer than the average cartoon in this set), which sports a weird, almost postmodern look and includes jokes about trees with "square roots," information about the value of pi, circles, pentagrams, pentagons in nature, the "golden rectangle" in Greek architecture, and a great deal more, and even some live action footage. Other rarities include "Grand Canyonscope," filmed in CinemaScope (with ample big, wide vistas as Donald lays waste to the Grand Canyon), a look at some storyboards that were never made into a finished product, and more. But the main attraction is Donald. Voiced, as always in those days, by Clarence "Ducky" Nash, the irrepressible duck ("Whoâs never wrong but always right? I confess I am an inconditional fan of Donald Duck. Here is the (final?) volume of his early adventures. All of these little masterpieces are there, remasterized. I would gladly have done without the Leonard Maltin presentations, which are totally incompatible with Donald's character! Otherwise a nice set to own with the other three. Inexplicably, the previous (third) set has gone out of print with Disney. So, get this one while it lasts!

By the time "The Barn Dance" (1928), the fourth Mickey Mouse short and the oldest film on this collection, was released, Mickey was well on his way to cartoon stardom. The viewer can see how quickly the Disney animators improved between "The Barn Dance" and "Mickey's Kangaroo" (1935, his last black-and-white film). The characters are so rubbery in "Barn Dance," that when Mickey steps on Minnie's foot, her leg stretches out on the floor. Mickey and Minnie look noticeably more solid by "Mickey's Mechanical Man" (1933). "Playful Pluto" (1934) offers the landmark sequence of Pluto trying to escape from sheet of fly paper: one of the first instances where an animated character actually seemed to think and react to his environment believably. But it's Pluto who gets the laughs--Mickey is already turning into the straight man he eventually became.

The Disney shorts also improved as films during this period. The direction becomes surer, with increasingly imaginative camerawork. If some cartoons look backward, recycling gags from "Steamboat Willie," "The Barnyard Concert" (1929) anticipates "The Band Concert" (1935). In both films, Mickey conducts a group of ragtag musicians in Zampa's "The Poet and the Peasant" Overture, and "Barnyard Concert" feels like a rough sketch for the brilliant "Band Concert," Mickey's first color short.

I have bought several of these books for my granddaughters, aged 2 and 4 who love Little Einsteins and was very pleased with the quality and storyline of all the books...they are easy to read for the older children and hold the interest of the younger children. The artwork is fantastic and if your children love the Little Einsteins they will also love these books and beg for more...books are always a great present and I was very pleased with the quality of these books.

This book may be fun to read WITH your child, but it doesn't really work to be read alone. Based on a 2005 episode of the television show, the story's OK -- Leo teaches Annie to fly a plane -- but it doesn't teach anything. Instead, all of its interactive elements are physical -- kids learn to wave their arms up and down, cross their arms and pat their shoulders, and clap their hands in a circle. Among the newer "Little Einsteins" titles, a better choice for kids to read by themselves is Leo's Baton.

Customer Review: Excellent album of Disney musical tracks!
I thought this album must be a very ordinary album when I first saw its cover. I thought it must be like other Disney song collection, confused and ordinary. However, I was still very curious that how this album could be and I listened to all the tracks with Amazon Listening Sample. Then, I felt it was a wonderful album had glorious musical tracks in it. It makes me recognize Jim Brickman's album "Disney Song Book". I viewed the track list on the back of the CD box when I began to listen to this album. All the tracks were so familiar to me. The original version of "A Spoonful Of Sugar" from "Mary Poppins" is good, though I don't love it so much. Then, this musical track gives me different feeling. It feels as lively as the original version in the movie but gives me purer feeling to my ears. "Someday My Prince Will Come" is a romantic love song, and in this musical track, it feels still so good. The initial romantic feeling hasn't lost at all! There are 3 tracks of songs from "The Little Mermaid" which I love best. I think "Under the Sea" is the best in these 3. The sound of the instruments that played the melody is wonderful, it feels still vivid but not noisy. "Part of Your World" is my favorite song in the movie, but this musical track of it is not as good as the one of "Under the Sea". And 3 classic songs from "The Lion King" are in this album. My favorite musical tracks in these 3 is "I Just Can't Wait to Be King". It feels pretty good. "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" is wonderful too, it gives us romantic and tender feeling just like "Someday My Prince Will Come" does. At first, I mede a mistake that I thought this is a album of "Beauty and the Beast" because I see the word "Beat" on the cover as "Beast"! However, there are tracks of "Beauty and the Beast" in this album indeed, and they're really glorious. 2 of them were from the Broadway Musical, "No Matter What" and "Home". Their original versions are good and so are their musical ones. Tracks of "Beauty and the Beast" are my favorites in this album. Generally speaking, the only shortcoming of this album is that all the tracks have the same style, I feel hard to tell the particular of each track though their melodies are different and they're so classic. However, this is a wonderful album, the tracks are tender and beautiful even there are no words to sing. This is my recently must-listen before my bedtime, the tracks often make me calm and I can have a nice dream. I think this album is fit for children very much, and also fit for many Disney fans who love light music.

One of my favorite resorts at Disney World is the Caribbean Beach. I can't say for certain that this is the ambient music of the resort, but it sure comes close. It's just the thing if it's too long until your next trip to Orlando, or if your having a tropical themed party at home.

Customer Review: Scarecrow died today!
Patrick McGoohan died today in LA from a short illness. He was 80 according to the LA Times. Sadly, his credits listed Braveheart and the Prisoner as his BIG accomplishments. For me he will always be the hero "Dr. Syn" the Scarecrow and the Vet who left the cat Thomasina die on that movie only to become a loving man/vet thru the local "witche's" love of the cat. He will be missed. I am glad he was alive to FINALLY see the release of Dr. Syn - I SURE HOPE HE GOT A COPY as most of us DID NOT!

This is a Televsion broadcast DVD. The 90 minute special from 1959 has some interesting things although the Kodak commercials get annoying. It is also very slow and somewhat boring especially during parade coverage and such. Some of the stuff on this disk is found on other Disney Treasures releases. It you have to collect them all then by all means buy it, but if you just want the best then buy Secrets, Stories and Magic. I still like this one, but I was just let down that it was not as good as the other Treasures releases.

One thing I hate most about this movie is seeing Scout Bozell float up in the air with a whole bunch of balloons like Pascal in the story of the Red Balloon. Due to Newton's law of gravity, this is the strangest thing I have ever seen in my entire life, and that is what scares me most about movies or TV starring real people. So if this is one thing you hate or don't like about TV, do me a favor and don't ever buy this movie.

Although it's fun to look at the old sketches and pencil tests, the high point of the supplementary material is the discussion host Leonard Maltin conducts with Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, the last surviving members of the justly celebrated "Nine Old Men" of Disney animation. Thomas and Johnston were nearly 90 at the time of the interview, but their enthusiasm for their work, for Mickey, and for the man who made it all possible remains undimmed. This DVD is great. It includes first appearances of Mickey, Pluto, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Pegleg Pete, etc. I wouldn't show these to toddlers, but these cartoons (most of them anyway) are GREAT! I'm ten years old and my eight year old brother and I love to watch them every Saturday morning instead of the junky and poorly made cartoons you find on television. I showed some of my favorite cartoons to my 12 year old cousin and even she loved them! Some of them don't have plots, but most of them are very funny and entertaining. Here's a list of cartoons and bonus features that are on these two great DVDs... (*= star. Five stars: I love it. Four stars: I like it. I have bought several of these books for my granddaughters, aged 2 and 4 who love Little Einsteins and was very pleased with the quality and storyline of all the books...they are easy to read for the older children and hold the interest of the younger children. The artwork is fantastic and if your children love the Little Einsteins they will also love these books and beg for more...books are always a great present and I was very pleased with the quality of these books.

Needless to say, this is one of Disney's best soundtracks. The remastered version is definitely an improvement. Why it was only released in Europe I don't know but it is worth going to the trouble to get it. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: epic and stunning
by 1996, disney animation was starting to slide. after the lion king's huge success, pohahontas failed to live up to the lofty standards; it was successful, but not to the same extent. the hunchback of notre dame saw a similar dicline as well. although the film is impressive and powerful, possibly overly so, the soundtrack is a truly forgotten gem. the film is flawed and was not the success that was hoped for, but this soundtrack is one of the best that disney has ever offered. the score here is one of alan menken's greatest. its hared to compare them all since they're all so different and show menken's brilliance as a composer that they all take on such life, but this is an A+ score. again menken uses sounds and rhythms from the setting to further the story. the brilliant use of greek and latin liturgical chants throughout much of the score and many of the songs bring power and weightiness that would have most definately been missed otherwise. these liturgical portions provide both the scores greatest strength but its greatest weakness as well. at times, sheer emotion that is present in most of his songs is missed and instead we are treated to an almost over-the-top style of music. still this is an impressive score by any standard that definately deserved the oscar but somehow missed it. SCORE 5 out of 5 as for the songs, menken and steven schwartz provided some of disney's greatest. for the most the part the songs are intense, powerful, emotional and dramatic. the comic songs provide wittiness and cleverness that don't undermine the actual story (with one exception that i will get to ...) THE BELLS OF NOTRE DAME - paul kandel is a phenominal presence here and the unbelievable flourishes of the score paired with the great story telling make this a top-notch opener for the film. the length never wears on and it stays incredabley impressive throughout. at times it does provide some strange moments musically that hint at levity in strange places, but nevertheless this is great 5 out of 5 OUT THERE - we first meet tom hulce's rendition of quasimodo here in this great song of longing. it is both emotional and powerful without being sappy. the biggest potential problem here would be having to live up to the intensity of the song prior to this, but out there does it with flawless ease. tom hulce's voice is also a great treat 5 out of 5 TOPSY TURVY - this is a great fun song that is both humorous but witty and clever. the humor doesn't compromise the story and keeps things moving in a dramatic direction impressively enough. this song shows an impressive maturity on the part of schwartz's lyrics and the audience that they will pick up on the sly humor. 5 out of 5 GOD HELP THE OUTCASTS - wow. this song's power and heidi mollenhauer's emotional performance raise this mere ballad of longing to something more and all the more impressive. this song literally moved me to tears because of the character's longing and emotional strength. the only complaint is that this could have been stronger if it was expanded similar to bette midler's version at the end. but still a great song that can't be missed. 5 out of 5 HEAVEN'S LIGHT/ HELLFIRE - first up is heaven's light. another beautiful little song from tom hulce who brings the same level of emotion and tenderness as before. the lyrics are soft and loving, perfect for quasi's ballad. then we have hellfire by tony jay. the intensity and raw sensuality make it a risky song for a disney flick, but it works brilliantly. the interesting thing is how the two pieces compare and contrast the two mens' feelings towards esmarelda; love vs lust. 5 out of 5 A GUY LIKE YOU - here's where things fly south. with this song we see none of the intensity or chants that accompany the rest of the soundtrack. alone this isnt that bad of a song. but within the film, it undermines all of the building drama with cheap cliched tactics. i understand the thinking behind the song; it shows quasi's delutions as to how esmarelda may care for him, even though she doesnt. but it could've worked much better if it used the wittier humor that is present elsewhere, it even undercuts the building drama on the soundtrack too. 2 out of 5 THE COURT OF MIRACLES - this is a short but darkly comical song that like topsy turvy brings dry humor and tongue-in-cheek humor to lighten up the song. it's short but worth a listen. 5 out of 5 SONGS OVERALL 4 out of 5 were it not for the disaster that is a guy like you, this would be a five star film and five star soundtrack. menken and schwartz showed on the rest of this soundtrack that they can do much better. this is still much better than most soundtracks out there today and blows many other disney works out of the water. this can't be missed by any disney fan or music lover in general.

We bought this from Target at full price + tax and I'd still buy it again! Someone complained of stickers not sticking well, that is only true if you are laying stickers on top of each other---which is not nessesary for use of this book. My daughter got this when she was 18 mos old and used it sometimes. Now that she is 2 she uses is daily! We've actually seen her coordination improve as to placing stickers more "in the lines" of the princess and she looks for "matching" clothes items for each one. OUR FAVORITE BOOK! The best part? VINYL stickers so it virtually lasts forever.

Customer Review: Possibly one of the worst Disney resource books- ever
While the "Little Black Book of Walt Disney World" did include the info that you'll find in most Disney guide books, it's clear that Rona Gindin did little research on the subject before publishing. Firstly, she mentions several attractions and parades that no longer exist, then omitted one table service restaurant that has been open since November 2007 (the Yak and Yeti). It's true that many of these attractions only closed in 2008, but Disney sites, as well as Disney fan sites, normally have closings posted for at least a year in advance, so it's not as if their removals were a sudden surprise. Other 2008 guide books all had the updated info. On top of that, Gindin also gets the story-lines wrong for certain rides (i.e. Dinosaur), doesn't know the names of the main characters from Cars, and calls Star Wars fans "trekkies." (I'm well aware that this last point is pretty trite, but in my opinion, anyone who publishes a book on any subject should have all their information correct.) This book may suffice for people going to Disney for the first time, but that doesn't change the fact that they will be armed with incorrect information. My advice- spend a few more dollars and buy the Passporter for Walt Disney World. You'll never need another guide book again.

Fun is probably worth the purchase for "Mickey and the Beanstalk," the second half of this combo-film. "Beanstalk" includes the last performance by Walt Disney of Mickey Mouse. It also has Donald Duck and Goofy as comrades who climb the beanstalk in their back yard to face Willy the Giant. This segment actually achieves the goals of the film's title. The first half, however, is "Bongo," the story of a addlepated circus bear. "Bongo" is more poky and interest-free. Dinah Shore warbles and narrates the segment, and it goes on much too long for its purpose. Don't trade your cow in for it. --Keith Simanton

Customer Review: Eye doc says NO
The film projector has this pin-point, VERY BRIGHT light. If you don't have the film discs in just perfectly (and our fall out if you don't hold them in), the light shines right into the eyes. I showed this to my brother, who is an eye doc and he said it could be damaging to little eyes. I threw the projector and discs away and will just use the book.

Essentially, this book is not a step into reading - unless you are thinking of it as a BIG step. Its an easy, simple book to read for a 5 year old, but the words are to large and complex for a beginner and it takes a considerable amount of more effort for the child to do it - and that with assistance - that if your goal is to make them feel confident in their reading ability, delay this princess book for a later time.

Customer Review: Please don't waste your money!
These arrangements are very poor, they are nowhere near the vicinity of intemediate players, more like a "casual begginer player". The arrangements are very plain, and lack any kind of rhythmical interest, the harmonies washed down many times. The only tune I like playing from the book is "Under the sea" from the little mermaid, but that's after adding my own calypso feel to it. Just save your money and buy a better book, not in print yet as far as I know.

This CD is a wonderful collection of some 25(!) of the most beloved Disney hits. Indeed, the songs on this CD are all songs from the great Disney movies that you remember from your childhood. There's "The Bare Necessities" from The Jungle Book, "Supercalifragilisticexpialdocious" from Mary Poppins, and "So This Is Love" from Cinderella. What's also wonderful is that the hits are from all of the Disney greats like Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid. My whole family loves these songs, and often sings along with them. I have several personal favorites from this album, including "So This Is Love" and "Candle On The Water." But, heck, I love them all! So, what's the final verdict? Buy this CD you won't regret it!

We bought this CD to practice my daughter's dance recital number to the "MICKY MOUSE CLUB MARCH"...however after listening to the whole thing over and over and over we are totally in love with classics like "THe Bear Neccessities" and "Supercalifragilistic (SP?)....we love the songs from all our favorite Disney movies, and this CD showcases a lot of them! :) A total bargain for variety music that is appropriate for children and families alike.

Customer Review: MY FAVORITE MOVIE AS A CHILD AND STILL AS AN ADULT!!
This movie is definitely a favorite of mine. The dancing, the singing, and the way that little girl brought people together. This movie came out when I was 13 years old. I cried during some parts of this movie when I was young, and I can admit it, I still cry now. I have always wondered why this movie was never put on tape or DVD. I am so glad that they finally have. I was only thinking about the movie, and a friend told me to check amazon. Well, I actually found video clips of it on YouTube first where I got to see my favorite scene. When Jimmie Bean and Polly were singing and dancing to Sweel Little Angel Eyes. I had memorized that song when i was young, and still know the words to it now. I used to repeat just that part of the movie. LOL. I don't mean to ramble on, I just really love this movie, and look forward to purchasing it, but not on Amazon. Thank you for all of your reviews, I will be going the Disney Movie club. As soon as I saw the price on Amazon, I thought you have got to be kidding me. I don't usually read reviews, but I am so glad I did today. Now, don't get me wrong, this movie is actually worth a lot more than that though. It is definitely a classic. I will be sharing this movie with my kids, and I hope everyone who knows about this movie does the same.

Polly is one of the best movies EVER made. I am 28, this came out in 1989, when I was 9 years old. I do have it on VHS, but the quality leaves a lot to be desired. Although I still watch it. I was considering buying it from Amazon, however $40 is a steep price to pay, and I have not seen it in stores as of yet. Thanks to a fellow member, I joined the Disney Movie Club tonight and also purchased it and Polly:Comin Home for $1.99 each. Thank Goodness. I can only remember fragments of Polly:Comin Home, but in no time I will know it by heart as well. I do know Polly from start to finish, word for word and every word of ALL the songs. Best movies Disney EVER put out.

We have a few little einstein books, and we are not overly fond of them. The DVDs are great, and the kids enjoyed the books on the first reading - but after they would ask for a different book. They lack a little substance. Melody the music pet is all over the place - we bought the book as it shared our daughters name, and even that novelty can't keep her interest. I would not recommoend this. I don't normally take the time to write reviews - but I was dissapointed enough with this book that it got me typing.

The Birnbaum guide has better theme park insights and tips for the kids. The Healthy Guide to Disney is more insightful on the menus picks meals and activities for kids. I recommend both.

Customer Review: Great guide for grandparents too
My wife and I recently used this book to take our four grandchilden (ages 4, 7,8, and 11) to Disneyworld. It helped us cut down the time we spent waiting in line and was full of helpful pieces of advice. My wife called it "the Bible" because I kept checking the guide before we could go to the parks every day. Just as the author and other Disney experts will tell you, Disneyworld can be a very overwhelming place and so any information you can have in advance will reap you plenty of rewards later.

We vacationed at Disney World for five days in December, 2008. My grandsons are 5 and 2. We used the Birnbaum's book as our guide in each of the theme parks. It was very helpful. Our 5 year old loved the characters and used the autograph section for the numerous characters we saw. I highly recommend the book.

Customer Review: Everyone Needs Sleep, Even Energetic Little Bunnies
As with ALL of the Disney Bunnies books, this has gorgeously illustrated pages. Unlike many children's books (many which are overly stylized or simple to look at it) this is a lush, beautiful world that Thumper lives in and a joy to look at for parents. It's a simple story of a bunny who cannot sleep as he watches all of his friends and family fall into slumber, and finally succumbs to sleep himself. The book is of a very sturdy, thick quality and has a glossy sheen. Very nicely done and the simple and sweet story that encourages bedtime is a nice book to have on hand before bedtime. My 3 1/2 and 2 year old girls both love this one.

The myriad of dining options at all four parks is mind-numbing. The Birnbaum guide helped us get the most of our visit--and avoid some of the less worthy places... My advice: go heavy on the walk-up dining. I fed five people lunch every day for under $40. This guide helped me make that happen.

Disney is so complex that it is always updating its restaurants and menu items all the time. To satisfy the Disney community's need to current info, the Healthy Guide updates its book several times throughout the year to give the reader the most current info on menus, prices and restaurants. So which one's best? The Healthy Guide is a joy to look at and read and is just amazing in its amount of useful information on Disney foods and eateries. Birnbaum's index is more complete and organzed. The Healthy Guide is more thorough in its coverage about everything healthy inside of Disney and offers so much "cynical" insight that it just can't be ignored, and it has the best Disney Dining tips and even fitness info. I recommend you buy both and start making your ADR's!!

Customer Review: Put yourself in a good mood
These are accurate transcriptions of many Disney favorites. A child playing diligently for a few years could tackle some of these songs. But don't think you are getting the 1998 publication. This one takes out some like "I wanna be like you", "Higitus Figitus", in order to put in more current songs from Brother Bear, Atlantis, and Treasure Planet. At last notice this book was priced at $29.95 - pretty steep in my opinion, but the publisher has cause for this list price; it's well bound and the pages are glossy and of good quality. So far my favorites to play are "Where the dream takes you" from Atlantis, "Go the Distance" from Hercules, and "Colors of the Wind" Pocahontas. But you can't beat the old classics from Snow White, Pinocchio, and Cinderella.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast: The Broadway Musical (Original Broadway Cast Recording)
Way back in 1991, many of us saw the single-handed salvation and revival of the old-fashioned American-style Broadway musical comedy. True, it was in the form of a feature-length Disney cartoon, but Beauty and the Beast had it all: a wonderful, tuneful score (including a huge hit title-song), off-the-wall choreography, a great opposites-attract love story with an ultimately happy ending, comic subplots, colorful period costumes, a romantic location in small-town France, and an irresistible cast, including Angela Lansbury as the voice of a teapot. Alan Menken's songs, with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, literally introduced the characters ("Belle" and "Gaston") and carried them gracefully through the old fairy tale with its new animated twists. Disney understandably decided to transpose this cinematic miracle to the Broadway stage in 1992. Beauty and the Beast at the fabled Palace Theatre has done as much as anything to revive New York's theatre district; it led to a similar animated film-to-stage transfer of The Lion King, which allowed for the magnificent restoration of the 1902 New Amsterdam Theatre, which was the cornerstone of the cleanup of 42nd Street, which in turn transformed Times Square and "Broadway" into the world's number-one tourist destination. And we're all terribly grateful. But, on stage, Beauty and the Beast was flat, and most of that lack of fizz is, alas, captured on compact disc. The good songs are all here, such as "Be Our Guest," but the performances of them are mostly perfunctory--the exception being the vocal renderings of Susan Egan as Belle, the Beauty. Further, the Disneyfication of the Broadway musical seems to extend to faceless and interchangeable (read: cheap to hire) players, a practice that extends to The Lion King. The only "names" in the original Beauty and the Beast cast were Beth Howland as the teapot and Tom Bosley, a mere shadow of his former Fiorello, as Belle's father. Even worse, unlike The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast was not reinvented for the stage. It's my theory that the kids who made up the live audience (and many of their parents) were filling in the blanks from repeated viewings of the cartoon on video. If you're willing to do the same when only listening, this CD might do. But why, when the movie soundtrack album is available? --Robert Windeler

Customer Review: Surprising!
I avoid Disney because they usually throw enough "sweetness" at a person to give them diabetes! Having heard two of the songs on AOL Radio, I was curious enough to order the CD. It was a TOTAL surprise! There is enough sugar in it, but there is FAR more passion than I would expect from Disney. It's a love story. (Aren't they ALL?) BUT there are enough other enjoyable moments in it to make it worthwhile. (Including what I perceive to be a suicide threat, "If I can't love her/Let the world be done with me."). Not what you'd expect!) While the whole musical can be summarized in three of the tracks, (Prologue, to tell the premise, Something There, to show development, and End Duet to resolve the situation) that doesn't say that the other tracks are fluff. They ALL contribute to the telling of the story. All in all, far better than I expected!

Our little girl is totally into the whole Disney princess thing, so I figured, what the heck -- a couple of cartoons, a few games on the computer -- how bad could this be? Pretty bad, it turns out. The cartoons are poorly produced and dull, and the games (which were kind of the main attraction) aren't really computer games, but rather suggestions for how to stage "party games" in the real world. You know, fun stuff like staging a scavenger hunt or making tiaras out of construction paper. Wow. Get that Disney magic going -- the full weight of the whole studio behind you! Whoo-hoo. We previewed this and didn't even bother showing it to our kid -- she would have been really disappointed. (Joe Sixpack)

I bought this to use for my daughter's 5th birthday party. It simplified my party planning a lot because practically all I had to do was turn on the TV. It was a hit!! All the little girls (age 4-8) loved playing the games! Their eyes got wide when they looked at the screen to see which princess they most resembled, and they loved dancing around to the songs. It was by far the easiest and best party I've ever thrown, all thanks to this DVD!! It was well worth the $15 I paid!

I took a few minutes to read all the reviews of this book first, and I must agree with the previous reviewers. They were all spot on about this book. My company is in the theme park design business so we naturally gravitate towards any Disney related books that we can learn from, and speaking from that "point of view"... anyone interested in "details" about how Disney thinks and works (How their designs happen) should certainly add this one to their library. As time goes on the 'greats' who created the Disney magic are leaving us one by one, and from what we (at Denny Magic Studios) observe in the theme park business...Other parks are really not paying enough attention to what these old timers did, and what they had to say... So in our humble opinion, we think that the existence of these written "words of wisdom" are really important jewels that should be studied and put to work well into the future. Right now in 2009 we are all in this "rough" economy, but things WILL improve soon and pundits have said that we are moving from an industrial society to a creative society, and creativity needs to be fed with a healthy dose of entertainment. Fellows like John Hench had the right ideas, and those ideas and techniques are even more important to preserve, and put to good use... today, more than ever before.
Customer Review: Of the Disney books out there, this is the best.
A bit lacking in the real nuts and bolts, but this is clearly a well done overview into the minds of some of the best Disney has to offer. Easy to read, and also a pleasure to read, left me wishing that disney appoints some one to really pick John's mind in case he leaves us some day, now that would be a tragedy, if we loose 1/2 of what this man has learned over a delightful lifetime of serving his customers and guests. Reading this brought me back to the B/W days of TV waiting for Walt, but Walt couldn't have ackomplished anything if it wasn't for the love of the work these people do, and have for the work they love to do.

Customer Review: Two Good Stories
RANI & THE MERMAID LAGOON: Fairy society is built upon being tiny and having wings. Rani's heroic sacrifice of her wings (in a previous adventure) has left her handicapped and without a clear place in Pixie Hollow. Rani goes questing in search of a new home. Very well written. The story stays focused, correctly, on Rani. Lisa Papademetriou does not make the mistake of giving Rani ALMIGHTY water super powers. This is not an "Aqua-girl" story. I was disappointed that the mermaids were not a bit more like Disney's "Little Mermaid" Ariel, but this is the universe of Peter Pan and besides Ariel is not your typical mermaid. The CD version is read by Quincy Tyler Bernstine. I could listen to her voice all day. FIRA & THE FULL MOON: Fira is outnumbered by her triplets and has to apologize to her townsfolk a lot. (Single mom + 3 bickering kids = go away now please.) But the day is saved when her kids disobey her instructions to stay home and follow her deep into a dangerous mine! Yay! Actually, the story was pretty good. A fun read. The CD version is read by the talented Debra Wiseman.

This book is OK. I gave it 3 stars because it does get played with. My baby loves turning pages, so she really doesn't care what is on them. There are not many pages (I think 6 total), so she gets to the end pretty fast and tosses it aside. The graphics are lacking, too. The book is basically pictures of wooden alphabet blocks stacked on top of each other and one lion king character somewhere on the page. It would be better if each page had only 1-4 letters on it with a picture of something that started with that letter. I guess I got my money's worth because I bought the least expensive bath book. I should have gone with one that was more expensive. I guess this is just another example of Disney throwing something together just to make a buck without any concern for its quality.

Hosted by the two moose from BROTHER BEAR, Disney's Sing Along Songs On My Way has jokes and songs galore- some of which I actually found quite funny. One reason people buy Sing Along Songs is to see and hear songs from the newest Disney animated feature that they can't yet buy. In this case, this DVD was released when BROTHER BEAR was in movie theaters, and it features the two best songs "On My Way" (very catchy!) and "Welcome." Other songs include "Try Again" (101 DALMATIONS II), "Following The Leader" (PETER PAN)- previously released on other Disney's Sing Along Songs DVDs and videos "Go The Distance" (HERCULES), I'm Still Here (TREASURE PLANET), "Digga Tunnah" (THE LION KING 1/2), "On The Open Road" (A GOOFY MOVIE) - previously released on other Disney's Sing Along Songs DVDs and videos, and Aloha E Komo Mai from STITCH! THE MOVIE. Bonuses include dance tracks, word games, karaoke tracks to really test your voices, and an opportunity to hear new jokes from the original voices of the BROTHER BEAR moose. This is actually one of my favorite Sing Along Songs despite the pacing being a little slow with the moose on some occasions. I suggest if you just wanna sing the songs, after hearing the moose once, skip them.
Customer Review: Good DVD
This DVD was good,but it suffers the same problem as "Home on the Range Sing-along"-the kids showing off for the camera in the so-called "Dance Along".Once again,I suggest you skip the dance-along part if you don't want to see kids hamming it up and grinning stupidly at the camera while just stepping from side to side over and over again. The only really fun parts of this DVD were the Sing-Alongs themselves and the karaoke.

Customer Review: A fun "flute" for a 4 year old
This was the best Christmas purchase of the year for my 4-year-old little girl. The music she plays is dreadful, but she absolutely loves it and wants to take it everywhere. The songbook is difficult and I don't think young kids would be able to comprehend it, nor reach the recorder notes with their tiny hands, but the recorder itself has provided hours of (deafening) entertainment.

Customer Review: No real substance
Birnbaum's Walt Disney World Without Kids is meant to be a companion to the Birnbaum's Walt Disney World 2008 (Birnbaum's Walt Disney World). For a book like this to be useful, it needs to provide extensive information on things that would be of use to adults yet not was deemed unworthy of inclusion in the main guide. After all, if it's in the main guide already why do we need this book? The guide also needs genuine critiques of restaurants and hotels that would be most suitable for romantic (or at least quiet) outings. Detailed reviews of dinner shows would also be a plus. These are just a few examples that single adults and couples might find useful. The key is that readers need good details and honest evaluations for a book of this type to have any value. The only other guide of this type that I have read was The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World for Grown-Ups (Unofficial Guides) and it failed to offer enough of value to justify its purchase. Did Birnbaum's fare better? One undeniable strength is that this book retains the high production values of the Birnbaum's series. It's loaded with very nice photos. The writing is clear and concise making for a quick, easy read. In other words, the form is wonderful. But the substance, that's where we stumble. There are no real critiques or comparisons offered. The coverage is too shallow to allow you to truly discrimiate which places would be best suited to your needs. There is also too little material that isn't available in the standard guidebooks for the area. In the final analysis, there just isn't enough substance here to make it worth buying. If you're looking for a guide to Orlando primarily composed of photos and basic coverage of the area, then the Birnbaum's Walt Disney World 2008 (Birnbaum's Walt Disney World) is by far the better choice. If you want a more substantial book that is packed with detailed information then the The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2008 (Unofficial Guides) is your best bet. If you really want the full picture, buy both of them. But whatever approach you choose, save your money and skip this one.

I bought the book for my 4 yr old who loves fairies. The basic concept she understood, but the technique was still a little too advanced for her. She enjoyed me helping her with it. I would recommend it as a stand alone for kids over about 7 yrs old, but younger than that expect to work with them as a joint project.

I have a number of the Walter Foster series and this is the one I wish I had gotten first. The Character drawing designs were some of the easiest to follow I have run across. The major advantage is that with with Genie Character you can draw just about anything he can change into. Only draw back is that the secondary characters, Raja the tiger, The Sultan, The flying carpet are only give a couple of pages total.

Customer Review: songs are ok, sound quality not great
The songs are actually good songs - but they seem to be re-recorded. They are not the original songs. The sound quality of the CD is poor - treble seems to be too high and not enough base. I played this on a CD player that has great sound quality with my other CDs, but not with this one. I am very disappointed in this CD. The sound quality is so awful, we listened to it once, and have never listened to it again. I would not recommend this CD.

I put this on when a friend was here and we were dancing and having a great time with each song that came up. I'm 56 and I felt like a kid again. There's the twist, the bunny hop, a great polka,the jitterbug and more. Personally, I was pleased that the songs were NOT sung by Disney characters....although the cover to the CD alludes to that. There are just a few quacks from Donald Duck and a tiny bit from Goofy and Mickey, just enough to flavor it. I can see it being fun for all ages. I use many songs with Dancing Hands hand taps, a fun percussion instrument that sounds like tap dancing.

Really tedious. A few good chapters, but on the whole, it's not about creative courage, it's about what Johnson happens to like about particular people. So the reader doesn't learn as much about whomever as one might hope.
Customer Review: Four stars for the facts, two for the tone...
If you ever read the syndicated political columns of William F. Buckley, the premier American literary conservative of his era, you undoubtedly recall that once in each effort he threw in an obscure vocabulary word, precisely used by him, never encountered by his readers before. It was educational, if you had a dictionary handy, but because this quirk of his was used judiciously, (one might say conservatively), it was forgiven. Mr. Johnson, obviously a fine scholar with a great education, who has rubbed shoulders with some of the best thinkers of the 20th century, has the Buckley flaw, but to a fault. It seemed that a word or a foreign phrase which baffled me popped up 300 times. I have four years of college and I'm not inexperienced in the world at age 63, (as of yesterday) but I found this word-dropping to be offensive. The one time I ever saw Bill Buckley in person, he did his trick in a way that also offended me: The week of Martin Luther King's murder I saw Buckley in a debate on civil rights with Julian Bond at Vanderbilt University, and Buckley, referring to the assassination, called it a "regicide" which was too cute by half, and should have been resisted by such a disciplined man. Johnson almost goes that far as well. One learns a great deal about the famous and the relatively famous thinkers and creators he profiles between these covers, but his prose style is cumbersome, and his attitude tedious. It took me weeks to read this, because I was only content with putting up with the book for four or five pages at a sitting. I know a lot more about the subjects of this volume now, but I also know a lot more about its author, and that makes me little interested in his other works.

Disney Dogs begins by highlighting dogs from the Walt Disney Animation Studios' history including early images of Goofy and Pluto from the nineteen-thirties and forties. Then it's on to all one hundred and one Dalmatians, the hound part of The Fox and the Hound, Oliver & Company, and Lady and the Tramp. Customer Review: Lovely art book for the whole family to enjoy
This book is filled with gorgeous images on nice paper stock. The introduction by Roy Disney was a nice touch. My favorite parts were the flip book section (although it was a bit tricky to do) and especially the section on Disney non-dogs (you really have to see this section to appreciate the extent of pseudo-dogs in Disney movies). I can't wait to see the next one by Ms. Khalaf!

What a charming book! Cover to cover filled with beautiful artwork, many sketches and "development" pieces as well as the finished characters. What is most amazing after looking through the entire book is how the artists capture all the things best about dogs. Through animation they can represent all the fun, compassion, intelligence and love dogs have in a way that photographs just can't. Also, I had forgotten how many wonderful Disney dogs there have been over the years, this was a fun walk down memory lane. There's even a little Lady and the Tramp flip book at the back. Cool! I know of at least 3 people on my list who will be getting this book for Christmas.
